Poland really isn't a respected country in some circles I'm afraid. It was a rising star but the populism there has made it a thorn in the EU's side.

This debate is a (relatively minor) fishing dispute, not a human rights one like the Polish gov.

The UK government has certainly lost some reputation, but recent support to India and vaccines has boosted its profile. Here in Canada, there's frequently positive news about the UK government.

The problem is that the Jersey government used these rules to artificially delay fishing licenses for French fishermen, using the additional bureaucracy as an excuse to discriminate against them. They've been waiting for more than 4 months to get these licenses, only to be "coincidentally" stuck in delays, be told that their submitted forms contained errors only for these "errors" to be so miniscule that even the uptight bureaucracy loving German government would shake their head in disagreement.

These are people that have been out of work for 4 months now and have families to support. The UK has literally sent out the Royal Navy to intimidate French fishermen.

France is staying within the limits of sanctions they are allowed to impose via the Brexit contract, while the UK is borderline escalating the conflict with their literal army.

The problem is that there is no solid opposition to either the Tories or the SNP. 

Keir Starmer is a capable politician and would be good opposition without issues like Brexit or COVID-19. Unfortunately, Jeremy Corbyn and Momentum created a campaign similar to the Tories that nearly worked - very populist and blame-heavy. Starmer can't compete on that level and doesn't have the ideological force behind him, he's much more moderate. Right now, moderate politicians just aren't popular. 

The Lib Dems should be making a comeback but they can't go anywhere. Like the Tories with Leave, Nicola Sturgeon has Scotland on a ride with independence. She's a skilled politician but a Scotland outside of the UK is a high risk game which is now complicated by Brexit borders. It's a shame we aren't exploring reforming the UK to please all involved.

That being said, I suspect the Tories post-Boris will shift slightly to the centre now Brexit is 'done'. Populism is cooling down around the world, so there could be some positive change on the way regardless of who's in power. Their vaccine rollout showed some common sense.

Not true, the french fishing boats that provided accurate and sufficient documentation all received their licenses in time and can fish.  The ones complaining about delays caused them theirselves

In EU is quite different. UK is hardly seen as friendly country and even with vaccine program they tricked the EU by buying doses originally intended for EU by offering higher prices. Later they tried to smuggle Astra Zeneca doses from Italy.

You want to talk about propaganda when you just posted “they tricked the EU by buying doses originally intended for EU by offering higher prices. Later they tried to smuggle Astra Zeneca doses from Italy.” 

Astrazeneca is “selling” the vaccine at cost and the EU tried to haggle them down which delayed their contract which also led to them negotiating a weaker contract that allowed AZ to prioritise other countries.

The UK has mostly been a voice of reason in the EU.  Opposing too much integration being aware of how politics is.  Now you have multiple far right leaders in the EU who have a vote on things like having one combined army etc?  That doesn’t seem like a good idea to me 

It opposed open borders thankfully.  We may have the odd terror attack but it could’ve been worse and we could have been like France where they have one every other week.
