Given the age demographic on this site, I know she won't win, but Fiona. She, along with Shirley Manson, Alanís Morrisette, Courtney Love and others, made it cool to be angsty again.

I'd also say—and I don't mean this as a knock on the others as I'd say most have great vocals—that Fiona vocally outclasses the rest by a lot. I love Lana, Lorde, FKA Twigs, Kate Bush, Grimes, etc. but I do appreciate when a singer has that vocal "oomph" that can put them over other strong vocalists.

Her first album, Tidal, was my first ever CD purchase at like 7 years old :billie: her vocals on that record are perfection

I was listening to Fetch the Boltcutters the other day and was thinking it's really remarkable how strong her vocals still are considering she struggled with addiction (which can obvs. impact vocals). You have some artists whose voices are seriously damaged by addiction issues and others who still so great or even better than they were at a younger age (Willie Nelson, etc.) despite struggling with addiction.

Omg that is so hard to pick just one. It really depends on the day :ohwell:

But I think overall "Limp" truly made me a stan. I feel that song so much...

What's the definition of "Alternative" in this thread? Cause I don't really know KB and FA were alternative.

So I'll choose Billie I guess.

Is Billie who doesn't really fall under the alternative label. Not Kate Bush or Fiona Apple because they actually are the pioneers of this genre.

Add Melanie Martinez to the poll this instant! She's my #2 under Gaga :flutter:

I also love Billie, Lorde and Lana!

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
