btw I think yeah it comes from a negative place, but pragmatically it may serve as an incentive for moviemakers to avoid producing garbage... like resources could be diverted to more fruitful endeavours I suppose...

We already have metacritic, rotten tomatoes and all these critic magazines. If you produce garbage your already gonna know it and get dragged, i dont think its necessairy to have an awards whose sole purpose is to announce to the world who they think sucked the most

 

Besides, just like the awards ppl actually want, razzies are highly subjective on who the worst actually is anyway. Its not like it gives any actor or producer any important factual information that their work was actually the worst

 

Imo awards are too opinion based and subjective to truly mean anything anyway, ppl always disagree with who should of won what. Its not some math formula that has a right or wrong answer. Its some peoples opinion of who was best so i dont think they justify as much prestige as they get

 

But at least good awards are entertaining anf make an artist feel good and accomplished even if their meaning is overrated... razzies are meant for nothing but to tear down, i dont think thats nice

LOL at the people thinking the Razzies shouldn’t exist. Anyone in the industry knows perfectly well, or at least should know perfectly well, how it works when they do a bad job at something. They will get heavily criticized for it, and it’s up to them to improve from it. This is literally just a freaking award, they’re not making them do a walk of shame or something lmao. I mean, they weren’t even televised until fairly recently. It’s tongue in cheek and any sensible director or actor or whatever wouldn’t take it to heart. Just look at Miss Sandra:

yea some of y’all are doing a bit too much. like cats won last year i’m pretty sure and after all the negative press i don’t think anyone there was going to piss themselves over winning a razzie. it’s mostly a satirical thing (hence a documentary winning both worst picture and actor lmfao) and everyone knows it’s not really a super serious thing. like ppl have said both sandra bullock and halle berry have gone to accept their awards, it’s mostly just a running joke in the industry. after all the negative press that music got, i don’t think that the razzies are what’s gonna tip anyone in that cast and crew over the edge 💀

Did not expect it to be the biggest winner of the night considering how really not many people knew of it and it made so little money. I've noticed that the Razzies really seem to dislike it when singers try to act or direct or basically anyone who isn't an actor by trade tries to do movies. They loved making Madonna win all the awards for worst actress multiple times and they also loved doing the same for the likes of Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian. Remember that Gaga was once nominated for one too for Machete Kills and probably the only reason she didn't win it was because Kim was up against her that year. They just really love punishing non-actors for trying to act, basically. Feel kinda sorry for Maddie that her breakout role resulted in a Razzie win. The really sad part is, she confessed to Sia that she was worried how her character and the general movie would be perceived but Sia told her everything would be fine. Makes you wonder how their friendship will be affected by this. I wouldn't be surprised if Maddie maybe keeps her as a friend but never works with her again. To have your breakout role alongside Oscar nominees and to win a Razzie for it all under the direction of your friend makes their advice in your career be questionable at best.

I think the Razzies should still go on, though. As someone who makes "worst of" year end lists myself, I think they can really help artists identify problems with their output and it keeps them grounded. Awards shows are all about kissing up and feeding egos so anti-awards shows like this knocks the egoists off their pedestal and reminds them that not everything they touch turns to gold. They also had categories that they've since abandoned now, like Worst Newcomer. Now that really is a mean-spirited award. That really says "you didn't just have one bad performance, we flat out don't want to you to ever act again judging by your performance in your only movie so far." I also think it's interesting how they sometimes nominate stuff that's Oscar nominated. I mean, Hillbilly Elegy got multiple nominations and that film was Oscar nominated. Glenn Close was nominated for worst supporting actress even though she was up for best supporting actress at the Oscars. Different minds think differently by the looks of it. And it's a thing to be a good sport and show up for your award. A lot of people take it on the chin and just have a laugh. Most actors at least know that they're in a bad movie and just signed up to it for the money or they were contracted so it doesn't bother them. Sandra Bullock famously won worst actress at the Razzies followed by best actress at the Oscars the very next night (for 2 different movies) and she just rolled with it. Like I said, it keeps you grounded.
