It seems a lot of people here are unaware of history, social context and Shakira's background in humanitarian work
And for those of you I say..

It's not worth the drama :ohwell:

I love Shakira, but if this is true... #EatTheRich

Unacceptable.

I believe all people proven guilty of a serious crime, non- or not violent should go to jail. If Shakira is proven guilty, then lock her up.

Couldn't care any less whether she's the most charitable celebrity in the world, she should pay her damn taxes.

Being a celebrity does not give you a free pass to do **** like this.

That's what I call historical/social reparation, since she's from a country colonized by spanish.

This is embarrassing, stop.

She faces up to 3 years, that's not her sentence.

Ok so if she like leaves Spain and just lives here in the US she's good, right? I mean 3 years is excessive for a non-violent crime and I hope she just comes to the US and avoids it.

What @FATCAT said

When they say someone "faces" that is typically refering to the MAXIMUM you can face for that crime under the law if convincted...

But its very rare that anyone actually gets absolute maximum... they consider several factors

- intent

- level of remorse

- co-operation in investigation in court (if you plead guilty for example and admit to everything often you get some lineancy)

- how often youve been in trouble with the law

- how tough the judge is

- several other factors

The upper limit on a sentence for most crimes is usually only reached in the worst offenders and usually repeat offenders and even then sometimes you wont get the maximum
