I also did some research, Nintendo often uses the Remakes to promote their new console, meaning that they'd most likely play out this Generation (maybe with a Part 2 like they did with B&W), and then in 2018 bring out their new console. 

DP sequels please. Also, Cyrus was an amazing and very well-written character, I wonder why he doesnt get the recognition he deserves. If a sequel does happen, he needs to return, otherwise, no sequels at all.

Its right up there w/ GS/HGSS IMO. It seems to get a lot of hate which is crazy because I prefer it so much to most other region (especially Region3  which is a fan favourite but my least...)

Sun&Moon are coming out this year, I would love love if we get the remakes In 2017 but I have my doubts

A remake comes out on every new handheld console 

Fire Red & Leaf Green came out on the Gameboy Advanced , Heart Gold & Soul Silver came out on the DS,

Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire came out on the 3DS, I'm guessing the next remake will be out on the next handheld 

My prediction is 

2017: Sequel to Sun&Moon (3DS)

2018: (no game, just like 2015)

2019: Gen 8 on New console 

2020: Diamond and Pearl remakes on New Console

It took them 13 years almost to make Hoen remakes, so 2020 makes perfect sense, personally I want it asap lol even more than Sun&Moon

Rowlet's Grass/Flying is 4 times weak to Ice, If Fire/Ground is true for Litten then it's 4 times weak to Water , Water/Fighting isn't the worst but it's such a mediocre type for me at least. The fan base was hoping that Litten becomes Fire/Dark and Popplio becomes Water/Fairy, those types are some of the best dual types in the game. So it's such a bummer if the discovery in the video is indeed true.

Water/Fighting isnt mediocre at all. Competitively, its a pretty cool and desirable type. Sure, it has 5 weaknesses, but so does a lot from the higher tiers. Water is already a great defensive type, but with the additional Fighting type, it can take a lot of common offensive attacks that has neutral damage against Water most notibly Rock. Stealth Rock can sit the fvck down. It resists 7 types and has offensive advantage over 7 types as well. We only have 2 Pokemon namely Poliwrath and Keldeo with the given type, and I would love to see Popplio's final evolution joins them.  Generally speaking, Water/Fighting is a great type, unique, and complement each other very well. But if he does evolves either part Fairy or Psychic, then I'm still down for any of them.

I don't know about the Wi-Fi competitive scene but I'm talking about Pokemon Showdown (Smogon) 

 

The problem is even if the type has a lot nice knacks, being a starter means it won't get stats over 530 which is still really good but it's not like it can hold itself like a pseudo legendary let's say, Dragonite is 4 times weak to ice and is yet one of the best competitive Pokemon cause it has amazing stats and an amazing move pool. All it takes to get rid of a water/fighting type Is Azumaril really, that belly drum will destroy any Pokemon unless it's electric or Poison or Grass (Grass and Poison are rarely used especially poison). The reason I say mediocre is cause I have high expectations for types and always try to have Pokemon teams with the best types possible. The Water/Fairy we were expecting for Popplio would run circles around Water/Fighting , 6 resistances, 1 immunity to the most common and strongest type, getting STAB on two of the most defensive types, not even steel resists water. The reason I say this is because Azumaril is very common and even if not an Azumaril, a well equipped pure Fairy type like florgess can wipe out a Water/Fighting type. 

Random but these are my top picks for best existing dual types

Best Defensive:

Water/Fairy (see Azumaril) , Steel/Fairy (see Mega Mawile) , Steel/Dragon (see Dialga) 

Best Offensive: Dark/Ghost hands down the fact that it has only one weakness and gets STAB on two of the least resisted types means that it is bound to damage more than 90% of Pokemon, only Dark resists Ghost and only Fighting, Dark and Fairy resist Dark attacks and it does not help that fighting types can't touch you, dark types cannot cause good damage, so only fairy will be able to handle that type both offensively and defensively. If we get more into, so let's say move pool wise, Sableye has access to fighting, fire, electric, steel and poison type moves so it can handle literally the best defensive types in the game. This is where the problem comes, Sabeleye has horrible stats and his mega is defensive instead of offensive. So Gamefreak needs to create a decent Dark/Ghost, however it will be very OP. My second pick for best Offensive type is again Steel/Dragon because it would kill most fairy and dragon Pokemon which again are some of the best types in the game but then again we only have that type in a legendary.

That is precisely why I'm hoping for a sick HA a la Greninja if its part Fighting   There wouldn't be a problem if its part Fairy at all because like you said, its one of the best defensive dual types out there. Aesthetically speaking, Popplio seems to be the playful one and grows to be acrobatic, which are the elements enough to make it a physical attacker. Assuming that he is and does get that Water/Fairy combo, he'll inevitably learn moves like Ice Punch and Earthquake to cover all of his weaknesses. But lets assume that anything at this point before any confirmation is fake. Even though that "leak" happened, there's still no word to it but it is in the official japanese site which makes it partly confirmed. I still have my money on Water/Fairy, and I havent given up hope yet. I dont mind a Water/Fighting as long as it has good stat distribution and an HA amazing enough to cut it through the higher meta. Protean compensated Greninja's average stats and I hope this happens to Popplio too.
