Lion Heart 15,041 Posted December 8, 2012 Share Posted December 8, 2012 I need to write an essay about this. Of the three starters from Gen 1, it seems to me that their appeal is just...gone. Before Stealth Rock was introduced in Gen IV, Charizard was a beast in matches; he had everything that he needed in order to be a sweeper: a high Speed stat coupled with a high Attack or Special attack stat. With access to Swords Dance/ Dragon Dance/ and Belly Drum, and a high Speed, trainers got nervous whenever this pseudo- dragon was thrown at them, now they just laugh. Stealth Rock will inflict some heavy damage on Charizard before he can even attack Blastoise is doing okay... he's a bulky water type Pokemon who can take a Thunder and inflict massive damage with Mirror Coat, but most people use him to remove any Spikes/ Rocks/ Toxic Spikes via Rapid Spin, and to stall those sweepers. Venusaur is the winner here. With its Dream World ability Chlorophyll, it's speed doubles, and it already has a fairly high SA stat, so when he hits, he will hit hard. At the same time, he can put the opponent's Pokemon to sleep and either force them to switch out, or hope that it's Giga Drain/ Sludge Bomb/ Hidden Power doesn't wipe them the **** out.
