I don't like the Kpop industry. They are abused.

kpop is a tiny fraction of korean music. many koreans don't even listen to the music you see as 'kpop', they call it 'idol music', and music like ballads, hip-hop and rnb is just as popular there. you cannot address societal issues through the music industry period, nevermind a part of the music industry that is only half of the bigger picture.

everything you have an issue with is a korean issue, not a kpop issue, and you cannot use a small part of society to critique everything else since you don't have the full story. you've simply read four articles and thought you were an expert, when the korean music industry and korean culture are some of the most complex things to discuss.

however it isn't my job to educate you. if you make a thread on something, i'm gonna assume you're at least slightly knowledgeable on it, and you shouldn't speak like an expert if you actually know very little.

Since this Conversation is greater than just Kpop (according to the links being pulled up)

Here are some things I‘d like everyone to see:

In a recent survey from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, acceptance of diverse families including single-parent and multicultural families rose, and nearly 70 percent of respondents defined family as people that live together and share livelihoods, even if not married or related by blood.

https://www.hrw.org/news/2021/02/04/family-south-korea-should-include-same-sex-couples

For a historic background:

https://time.com/5918808/homophobia-homosexuality-lgbt-asian-values/

However, there is some hope, as progressive leaders are working on passing an anti-discrimination law through the legislature, something that Cho says would mark the first step to protecting the LGBT+ community. However, advocates of sexual minorities still have more work to do, he said.

"The community needs to form a collective voice, which hasn't really been heard, except for in the queer parade weekends or festivals."

Korea has a Gay Rights issue, but weaponizing that to say the Kpop Industry is bad is false, wrong and super distasteful. The homophobia does not stem from Kpop, instead creates dialogue to fight it (since it‘s more gender neutral and the younger koreans are pro LGBT).

The Suicide in Korea is a nationwide problem not just in Kpop. Tho I already posted a link about an article with a law being passed in a post earlier.

You're very kind. Thanks for showing your true colors.

I don't blame users who think kpop is manufactured. By the way it's presented, korea already established an effective structure and program for idols to train them, an idol academy. You'll even see the similarities of entertainment companies that have certain facial preferences (talk about manufacturing - lmao).

When idols post on sns where they only had 2 hours of sleep or share they're only allowed to drink water, it is really concerning. Maybe not for all idols, sure. But still a concern that some, if not most, has to suffer. Groups are given concepts, and it just feels like in most cases, it's handed to them. Some are lucky they have artistic control, but the ent companies continue to dictate what's gonna sell.

However, I do think this also happens on the western side of things, where artists are controlled by their labels. Don't do this, don't do that, here's your theme, blah. They're the same. It's just that kpop industry in general just seems more intensive where idols need to know how to sing dance and maybe even act. The fan service gay agenda also gets out of hand sometimes, but we stanning so :bear:

Also, don't ridicule people who can't differentiate kpop and other k-genres. Educate them. If I go to spotify right now, the kpop category is just one general all-catch for korean music, which gives most people the wrong impression.
