dit 46,738
this was such a historic moment in the Canal's long history lol. It also bring into question some interessting things like having more alternative canals. Apparently Israel is considering creating one across the Negev desert which would connect the Aqaba strait to the Mediteranian. This would be a bit of a longer ship ride but could deffinetly be a good alternate route in situations like these. Of course the Suez's epicness will NEVER be matched and will remain the leading force in trade routes in the Mediteranian BUT it's always a good idea to have an alternate road just in case and for competition as well. Additionally, this could benefit Jordan's economy as well because if the Aqaba strait gets more trade then Jordan will also benefit from it seeing as Jordan also has access to Aqaba. I feel like it would be a great idea all around. It will be super difficult to create an artificial canal that long but it is not impossible and with enough will power and money it totally can happen. This owuld also make the Negev region of Israel a lot more liveable and more of Israel's population will move around the area, greenefy it and make it a prosporous part of the country instead of leaving it be a near useless desert area.
