France overseas territories are regular part of France whose populations want to remain in France so it's not like colonized zones. The only french place where maybe the majority wants to leave is nouvelle Calédonie who chosed to stay 2 years ago with a referendum and will have an other one next year to decide. I gave this precision cause you said "France is doing the same today" to someone discussing colonies merely renamed "territories" which sounded a bit like if these places were colonized now. These places are parts of France which see/feel themselves this way since a very long time now therefore aren't renamed colonies anymore.
