Boris is basically the Walmart version of Trump and the majority of this site hate Trump for good reasons. Boris just doesn't have the delusional cult following that Trump has. No need to apologize, i know you were not attacking me. Still i learned my lesson and i will refrain myself from giving my two cents about international political affairs. I wasn't expecting mine until end of March so I'm super happy. Dang Ppl our age in Canada aint getting one till June/July at the very earliest Canada has more dose contracts per capits than any other Country in the world yet we are lagging many other nations in rollout Weve had bad luck with delays in shipments abd the fact we dont produce any means were fully at the mercy of imports

As a caveat though, there was probably more that could have been done early on in the pandemic to get to enable at least SOME vaccine production capability in Canada. I was reading this article on the UK's vaccine production strategy: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/world/article-how-britain-became-a-world-leader-in-covid-19-vaccine-distribution/ (web version has a paywall, but it's free on the iOS News app) They're saying Kate Bingham, who headed the vaccine taskforce, recognized early on the UK did not have much vaccine production capability at hand, with only two active plants (one for flu vaccines, one against encephalitis). Back in February, they recognized the need for incentives to attract vaccine companies and created the Vaccines Manufacturing and Innovation Centre, which obviously isn't fully operational yet, but has been producing a significant amount of AstraZeneca Vaccine. They also secured deals with foreign vial plants as another incentive for Pfizer to partner with them. It's an interesting read and provides a lot of insight into her visionary and proactive thinking. Canada was obviously in a tough position, but I think with a visionary like Bingham at the head of our taskforce and swift action to make us competitive, we could probably have made ourselves more essential in the vaccine race so that we're not constantly the first ones to face delays. It's all "coulda woulda shoulda" of course, but highlights the importance of quick and bold action in times of crisis like this. Definitely theres always stuff that could of been done differently and nothing will ever be done perfectly Im just saying on the grand scheme of things i think we did the best we could and the criticism is excessive But yes we can definitely learn from what we "could" have done

I'm 29. And vulnerable category 9, which is the lowest vulnerability category, so after my group its normal population. How many people have been vaccinated there now? We are upto 1 in 3 adults. Im hoping and hoping that alot of the restrictions will be lifted in the next 4 weeks
Ricksies 527
So proud of how well our NHS and Vaccination crew are doing in the UK. Boris hasn't been the best leader during all of this (but then again very few have been great) but in terms of vaccination effort he's doing a fantastic job and deserves some praise. A few people I know have had the Vaccine including family. It is such a ray of hope during these tough times.

I want the vaccine asap but there's too many factors still at play. Supply, demand, different variants that are resistant to the vaccine... yeah, not much hope. Another thing to add to his list of fck ups It wouldn’t matter how well the UK was doing because you’d as always come out with some negative anti-England stance. Much to your disappointed we hit 15 million first dose target, no reason this target isn’t unachievable. But I wouldn’t hold my breath in you praising that when we do. Don't come at me with this ignorance pls I'm critical of the UK, not England... but maybe you've got some identity crisis happening and can't tell England apart from the UK! First vaccination numbers aren't that important because it takes TWO jabs in the arm THREE weeks apart for someone to be 95%+ vaccinated against COVID-19. The UK Government have decided to go against what the scientists and the SAGE committee have said (yet again) to try 'speed up' the process. But the reality is that the UK is lagging behind Europe. 1.1% of adults in the UK are fully immune against COVID-19... roughly 550,000 people. Most European countries have well over 1m of their population fully vaccinated. Spreading the vaccines 12 weeks apart will reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine. THEN you've also got to take into account that the new variants detected have learned to evade the immune system, making the vaccines have even less of an impact. The Oxford vaccine is less than 10% effective against the SA strain, which the Bristol and NE England strains share a commonality with in their 'modifications'. And what about supply and demand? There's no guarantees that there won't be supply shortages down the road, therefore further delaying the time between vaccinations. What about new strains? This virus is growing, developing and learning. Thats what these viruses do. If you let people mix together who have only had 1 jag in their arm with the Covid-19 strains, then there's nothing to stop it developing a strain that's completely resistant to the vaccines. You don’t know what the future holds. Do not try me with this 'anti-English' ideology that you think I have. If you can't see the flaws in the UK Governments plans/handling then don’t spin things when others are calling it out. End Racism Now

Actually according to the latest study here & here the Oxford vaccine is more effective at being delivered 12 weeks apart which supports the government's plan, astrazeneca themselves support it to. Getting as many people vaccinated with the first dose of 70% efficiency is absolutely better than having no immunity at all. Even more reason to get as many people vaccinated with the first dose asap which would lessen the chance of it mutating. Of course the government's handling has been catrasphic, everybody knows that, but let's be honest it wouldn't matter who was in power with any of current party leaders because our situation would be no different. No. Y'all need to stop giving Boris a free pass. The scientists can only do so much, the SAGE committee can only do so much... but ultimately its Boris Johnson's Tory government that decide how to steer (or rather not to steer) the UK out of this pandemic. I don’t have much faith in Keir Starmer, but if Labour were in Government I'm pretty sure they would have gotten things done quicker and made sure public health was firmly put first instead of the economy. Nicola has done a better job up here in Scotland, and we don't even have full powers to govern ourselves! Boris put money before lives, and he's still doing that. 70% isn't enough, and you can still catch the virus and be serious ill with just one dose. That's why it was clear in the studies that it had to be 3 weeks apart. And as I said, the Oxford vaccine is pretty much useless now, thats why many countries around the globe have stopped ordering it in. However as I previously linked the most recent studies show sustained protection of 76% during the 3-month interval unit second dose, so what's the issue if its not at 3 weeks? The chances of you getting severe symptoms is still significantly reduced as opposed to having no immunity at all. Therefore getting more people vaccinated with the 1st dose = less Hospital admissions due to severe symptoms (and strain on the NHS) and less people dying. Useless? Pretty sure the oxford vaccine is still effective on the dominating strain/s circulating in the UK. The only one it's not proving AS effective on is the S.A one which isn't a dominant strain here or other european countries. So far there have been around 150-200 confirmed of that S.A variant, and the cases that have S.A variants here are falling.
djparky 267
I'm no fan of Bozo or this Tory government, I despise alot of what they stand for, especially Brexit. However the one good thing they've done is hedging their bets on the vaccines. Combined with the amazing work of the NHS to roll this out- I had my first jsb 2 weeks ago To the previous poster- the annual flu jab is about 50% effective, yet we carry on regardless. Nothing is 100% safe or risk free. Plus there are other health consequences to indefinite lockdowns which may be just as serious as covid
