Some facts about Hazel McCallion: - She still lives in her own home - When she was young she was a professional hockey player in a womans team - She has the nickname "Hurricane Hazel" which struck the area decades ago due to her strong and non stop nature - was the Mayor of Canadas 6th largest city (Mississauga) for 36 years in a row never loosing an Election - She won #2 Best Mayor in the world in 2005 behind the mayor of Athens - She stopped campaigning and would still win up to 91% of votes in election - She turned a small Toronto suburb into Canadas 6th largest city while making the city debt free, and turned it into one of Canadas largest business and Corporate Centres. Canadas largest Airport (Toronto Person) is also actually situated in Mississauge despite the name Despite turning 100 she remains busy. Tho she decided to finally give up on her role as mayor after 3 and a half decades, Hazel has remained active in politics as a public transportation commitee member, and an advisory member for both a University and an Arts organization! Its factory after factory high tech jobs after high tech jobs and lots of Corporate offices. That city has sooooooo much industry, you drive for miles thru entire city zones where is just pure industrial zones. Without mississauga the Toronto metro region unemployment would rise cuz she brough so many jobs and industry to city that many from other cities including Toronto commute to Mississauga and rely on it for work!
