Meh. I’m not complaining about oHhHh nOoOo, StOp RuInInG cLaSsiCs... but man, Hollywood sure does need more original ideas. :bear: I would probably only watch this depending on who’s in it.

It honestly needs an update but I still love the original. I would have liked a Wicked movie first though.

This is ridiculous. We've already gotten the original timeless classic, The Wiz, Return to Oz, The Great and Powerful Oz and an upcoming Wicked movie coming as well. Why mess with a classic of this caliber. This isn't comparable to A Star is Born, The Wizard of Oz is the most watched movie of all time.

Why does it need an update? The original holds up amazingly well for its time period and is a staple in pop culture. The Wicked movie coming is another reason not to remake a movie that is in the same vein.

Did anyone ask for this?

Since when are movies that are made asked for? They make them and whoever wants to whatch them whatches it. Simple as that :enigma:

I mean it's not the first remake and in the last one we got the most fun campy movie ever starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson. So maybe it will be good or maybe bad but hopefully we get something fun.

I would love to see Gaga as the evil witch or Glenda and I would love to see Ariana in Wicked.

A star is born :enigma:

ASIB Is famously re made through the generations of icons in music, (Judy, streisand, Gaga) So it's a classic that is meant to be re-imagined over the years, Wizard of Oz is known for being an iconic, unique event so its different, they might do a good job and reintroduce the story to an audience who would never sit through the origional! (It is very very old looking, hard for younger generations to relate etc)

Pray for this to be iconic!

The Wiz came out DECADES ago though lol. The last time Hollywood did a Wizard of Oz themed movie we got the awful Oz the Great and Powerful. :madge:

Why do people poop their pants so much when remakes happen? Just don't watch it if your connection to the original is so tenuous that watching another version might "ruin" it for you. The original will still be there, exactly the same, regardless of whether the remake happens or if it's good or bad. This is not worth getting upset over.

WoO was of its time. It has an innocence and sweetness to it. People are too cynical now. Plus who can follow Judy...

Perhaps the question should have been phrased "Does anyone want this?"

I'm guessing very few people want it and probably a lot more think it is unnecessary and even disrespectful.  When discussing remakes I remember telling my cinema professor a remake of The Wizard Of Oz would be a crime against humanity.  Ok, I was overly dramatic, but it really hurts to think someone would actually do this remake.

I live outside the space time continuum.

Better Day

I can see both arguments for and against the movie.

I’ve never watched the original but it came out over 80 years ago (besides sequels) but it could be interesting how they can develop it to the current age.

I dunno. Ive always been on the camp that classic stories have a place to be retold among new generations with their own modern spin on it

Making a new version doesnt get rid of the original

The Wizard of Oz is like Cinderella, or Alice in Wonderland there are many adaptions and I'm fine with that.

The Classic 1939 Film is my allllllll time favorite but I do enjoy other versions like Disney's 1985's The Return To Oz.

Classics live forever because they are told over and over again.
