I’m a fan since 2009 and ARTPOP still left a bitter taste. At that time it was her worst album. I was having a rough time around that time so I could connect and heal from it, so it will always be a meaningful album for me. Talking in terms of how Gaga was doing under that period is another side of the coin. I mean, her tweeting she don’t remember the album is highkey because she was on drugs almost all the time during that period, it was most likely dark and very depressive. And that is sad but I can understand it and relate to it as well. Speaking musicwise again, I think a lot of people were not ready for the sound of ARTPOP. The world was not ready. And we all have different taste in music and that’s fine, I mean I’d choose Chromatica over AP too, but there’s no need to trash the album. IMO it spawned a lot of good songs that I listen to often today, some of them are Sexxx Dreams DWUW (R Kelly version) (sorry ik he is a dirty rat but that version still slaps and will forever be that bop) MJH Applause GUY And I think the other songs are good too, it’s you know, when you hear a song and can relate to special moment/period of your life? Gaga had a vision for these songs while creating them and they sound good, no matter if some are just copy and paste. That's how the music industry works sometimes. I think it's too abstract to be explained. Even with Chromatica, the concept is pretty abstract imo, especially when she's explaining it in those little videos on Spotify. A major criticism of the album has always been that it's not cohesive sonically. But that was the whole point of the album - to not conform to one genre or structure, unlike for example Chromatica where it was a homage to 90s house, which is why it is regarded as so "cohesive". Gaga served edm (Aura), edm infused disco (Venus), industrial edm (GUY), synthpop (Sexxx Dreams), trap (Jewels n Drugs), glam pop (Manicure)..and that's just the first 6 tracks. Gaga really wanted to make the music that she wanted to make at that particular point in time without regarding what her management or her fans wanted from her. And I love that. I hate when singers make music to please their fans. Even with how Gaga presented herself during the era, her wardrobe was club kid-heavy and every time she presented herself to the public, even just going outside of her hotel she looked different every single time, was to never stick to one image or the image of how a pop star should look like. That was the whole "put art in the forefront" thing, for her to be able to express herself in whatever way she wants to, release whatever music she wants to. The problem was that people saw "art" in the title and thought she was gonna sing about art in a philosophical sense. But the weight in the songs on this album is in the spirit that they were made in. ARTPOP is challenging yes, but that was its whole purpose. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
