Girl this is too confusing for me to comprehend. But i can't lie to myself and say that every single portrayal of every marginalized community in a work of fiction/art HAS to be gloriously shining and devoid of any faults, that's just not realistic.

People on GoldDerby forums have mentioned her meeting with the HFPA members, taking pictures and giving a private performance so, that explains the nominations. :rip:

These people really just nominate things without even watching them :rip:

Wow this is going to be a stain on Sia's career for sure. Idk what she was thinking partaking in the making of this movie. Based on these tweets she obviously did NOT do proper research to create a film with this type of subject matter.

It sucks because Sia is one of the most inclusive people in the industry and yeah she probably didn't do enough research about this subject but it's incredible to see how easy it is for people on social media to drag you down for stuff like this.

I’m sure Sia’s intentions were good in making this film but it doesn’t sound like it portrays autism well at all, an absolute mess for her career. :fatcat:

Well Remember when she was cursing People on Twitter for criticizing her? She mishandled the situation for the get go. Glad she deleted her Twitter. She needs to stay off social media.

Yeah I do but honestly everyone jumped on the bandwagon before they even gave the film a chance. She didn’t handle the criticism well at all but at the same time she is a human and all this hate towards her is taking it too far.

In hindsight, she deserved to be called out because, well, look what’s happening now. She could’ve used that backlash to re-think the situation and modified the movie to be more accurately representative of Autism, but instead she got pissed off and barked back the ones calling her out.

I'm still disgusted at James corden nomination because 1. The fact he's nominated for anything 2. yet another straight cisgender man getting praised for playing a stereotypical gay man :bye:

No no no, there's nothing wrong with James Corden's personality. We need more straight men who have vibrant personalities to show that you DON'T need to be a stoic, emotionless man to be straight.

Maybe because there are lots of real gay men who are actors and who need a break in the industry.

You could say the same every time AAA-list actors get cast over rising stars in any role. It's an industry issue, not a sexuality one.

Straight men can do that without taking a gay mans part, somebody who isn't gay shouldn't get to portray how they thing a stereotypical queer should act.

Then why can't he turn the part down? He's not exactly short on jobs and he could use his voice to stand up for whats right.

Went looking for more about her deleting her Twitter, found this update:

https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/movies/2021/02/04/sia-adds-disclaimer-golden-globe-nominated-music-amid-backlash-autism-community/4386251001/

Sia's new film "Music" – which received two Golden Globe nominations on Wednesday – will now include a disclaimer before it starts as backlash from the autism community has mounted against it.

The movie features scenes with Maddie Ziegler's autistic character "Music" being restrained as a means to calm her down – something advocates have condemned.

"MUSIC in no way condones or recommends the use of restraint on autistic people," the disclaimer will read, according to Variety and The Guardian. "There are autistic occupational therapists that specialize in sensory processing who can be consulted to explain safe ways to provide proprioceptive, deep-pressure feedback to help w meltdown safety."

Sia, who has since deleted her Twitter account, apologized and said the scenes will be removed "from all future printings," and that she "listened to the wrong people and that is my responsibility, my research was clearly not thorough enough, not wide enough."

This is very ironic coming from her considering when people did call her out, her comeback was ‘WATCH THE MOVIE FIRST’ and now people have and it’s worse than they thought it would be and now she’s all I’m sorry I listened to the wrong people bs lol

should’ve said this way back in November smh

Harris Walz 2024

This is a movie, not a documentary. While it's great to portray realistic comparisons, there should also be leeway to tell a story.
