1) Couples were breaking up, sick of living with each other, and therefore weren't having much sex (that's my situation as well)

2) In this economy and unemployment soaring, it wouldn't be wise to have more kids...

IMHO this just stated the obvious on how standards have largely changed/shifted since the post WWII era which is the cause of Baby Boom back then. 

Following World War II, the United States experienced a greatly elevated birth rate, adding on average 4.24 million new babies to the population every year between 1946 and 1964. But clearly young couples today mostly not really into kids or being more responsible with taking big decision at least, compared to young couples back then.

So what's the difference between this and when there's a big power outage for a week and there's suddenly a baby boom nine months later? What causes people to collectively say or not say "oh, we have nothing else to do, so let's have sex and let's not use protection this time"?

I have two friends who got pregnant during the first Lockdown after trying years unsuccessfully. They say it was the less stressful life probably as they were laid off work (but still in a financial secure situation). But on the other hand: Singles I know all stayed single because they didn't left there flat for months and people in stable relationships like me are fearing to loose their jobs or have a smaller income than before, soo... sadly not good conditions to have a kid.

In the begining of pandemic people were going out less, but I think now the number is stable again, people will recover pretty soon. People are acting like there's no pandemic anymore. At least the gay are doing their best baring etc.

Not surprised... many analysts said calls for a baby boom are unlikely as most past downturns and difficult periods led to less births not more

 

In fact baby boomers came after things got better in late 1940s/early 1950s onward not during great depression or WWII
