GagaSine 7,464
Imagine working two jobs at minimum wage, still barely keeping up with your rent, do you really think it is realistic for someone living like that spending extra money on fresh produce and the having to spend time cooking/preparing it? Not everyone has the energy/time/skills for that, and it the reality for a lot of people. Also today I ordered food from a ‘healthy’ restaurant, it was brown rice with broccoli, raw cabbage salad and plant based protein in a sugar free sauce. The portion size was TINY, like maybe half a cup of rice, same amount of cabbage, like three pieces of broccoli and the protein. I also got a small matcha tea and sugar free slice of pumpkin pie (which tasted awful btw lol). This cost me $40 (Canadian currency). I could’ve bought like 3-4 large pizzas at that price which would have fed me for several days, versus the two hours or so I was full after that ‘healthy’ meal. Now imagine you only had $80 (a generous amount already) to spend on food for a week, what would you choose, if say your apartment did not have a proper kitchen or the nearest grocery store was an hour away by bus? Guest
obesity is caused by excessive over consumption of food and that does not seem like symptom of being too poor to afford food. America has a big problem with over eating, especially over eating junk food, and its causing unnecessarily and fatal health problems for millions of people.... I don't really understand why people want to deny these things. we need to acknowledge the problem in order to fix it.

No one got fat from eating excessive amounts of fresh veg.
Ivy 13,721
While he's right that people should take better care of themselves, there's way more to healthcare than just that so I think it's really a dumb statement Accidents, childhood cancer, virus, genetic conditions, mental illness, etc.. not to mention the fact not everyone has access to healthy food or even knows how important it is. Also healthy food usually has less calories so doesn't make sense to buy if you're in poverty Anyways, eating healthy supports good health but it doesn't heal/prevent every health problem the meow in zombieboy

A portion of obesity is definitely caused by simple gluttony, but a huge part of America's obesity problem is the existence of food deserts, fast food being cheap and readily available compared to healthy food, the subsidization of the meat and dairy industry as well as the prevalence of sedentary lifestyles and cost of gym memberships and growing economic inequality. GagaSine 7,464
I swear poor people could starve to death eating nothing but raw salad and y’all would stand there like “Good for them! At least they weren’t fat “. We need calories for brain and body function, they need f*ckin’ something to sustain them throughout the day.

alsemanche 97,801
Ah yes let's listen to the CEO of Whole Foods about how we should consume "better" food. Totally not doing this for his own capitalist interests nope Soft, soothing, and succulent
Guest
Ive been to the US for two weeks ive seen so many obese people some had to get a wheelchair to function. One that always stays on my mind is a morbidly obese man in a wheelchair buying a huge donut. It just really made me sad... but after ordering fries and a burger with my fingers drenched in oil and my plate drenched in oil I was just shocked but I understood, it's not a stereotype theres an issue
tifffany 373
We need both. Healthier lifestyles and a different approach to well-being, AND accessible, high-quality preventative healthcare and treatments.
ItWasntLaauv 6,392
He’s right about about the population needing to take accountability for their eating/physical habits and how it affects their health, but healthcare is ALSO a necessity to supplement that!! And what about conditions that is outside dietary control?? LIKE WHAT’S NOT CLICKIN???
Serial Chiller 8,044
The fact that some of yall are defending this mf - the ceo of whole foods- the place with overpriced organic **** that the upper/ middle class Karens shop at. “The best solution would be not to poop. Just shovel the feces back where it came from.” That’s how realistic this sounds. Saying that people dont need healthcare while they’re probably on some top tier insurance. These necks yearn for the chop chop I see.

I have difficulty understand that though. Im not rich id say im between poor and middle class and i always eat healthy. Fruits and veggies are not that expensive, i can get apples for 0,69 cents the kilo, but i noticed in the US, for 2 apples it would cost me much more, I even tried buying lettuce, tomatos, carrots to make a salad and found that i dont have enough money for that. That's the basics here at least in EU, but even in North Africa...you go to the souk in Morocco and buy fruits and veggies for 50 cents the kilo, and Morocco is not as powerful and rich as the US and never will be. So there's a big issue in the US with how it's ran. It seems like it's not truly a country made for its people but for money
