It's smarter for Gaga to have two pre-album singles than just unleash an album upon us for some extra first week sales. It's been done by three of Gaga's female contemporaries, and the surprise drop is just not the pop cultural event it was before Bey and Taylor both used it twice. Gaga will look out of date if she does it in 2021 or beyond. Time to come up with another marketing strategy. Releasing an album in the foreseeable future would be fruitless. Gaga just had an album cycle derailed by Covid, might as well wait for the whole pandemic to be a thing of the past before embarking on another music era. You're acting like Taylor Swift just didn't have maaaaajor success with releasing two surprise albums. Obviously Gaga, today, couldn't do those numbers, but she'd still do well. And so what if Bey and Taylor both did it? That doesn't stop Gaga from doing it if she wanted to. Gaga's still a big artist with a large and loyal fanbase and with many casual listeners. "Gaga would look out of date if she does it in 2021" — Girl, the year just started wtf Taylor did her second surprise album drop last month. I also don't understand why you brought up COVID and releasing an album in the foreseeable future. I agree with what you said about that, but that has nothing to do with the conversation about doing a surprise album drop. This thread isn't about Gaga doing a surprise album in the foreseeable future of 2021, it's about Gaga doing a surprise album in general. ᗰᗩYᕼEᗰ || 🦇👹🖤

Surprise albums will only appear more blase as time goes on... Taylor had success, and Beyonce also had success, but come on now. After so many surprise drops the novelty has worn off. Gaga doesn't need to be seen as a follower, especially one who jumps on trends years late. In general I just don't think a surprise album would have any real benefits unless Gaga did a drastically different rollout of the album or project. Gaga isn't Taylor, she won't pull in the same numbers, it is smarter to actually promote and release pre-album singles to boost the songs on the charts and raise hype. Suspiria 10,683
Honestly I don't think her team could actually keep it a surprise. They just seem incapable of preventing leaks. Personally I hope she wouldn't do it either. If this era is anything to go by, a surprise drop would mean literally no promo whatsoever.

I never said that Gaga would do the same numbers as Taylor. In fact, I've said the opposite thing numerous times already. But let's be real, even with promo, Gaga would never be able to do those numbers anyway. 46 minutes ago, Chromatican said: Surprise albums will only appear more blase as time goes on... I think the novelty of it can wear off if it's the same artist doing it over and over again. If Beyonce released like 6 surprise albums in a row, then yeah, the novelty wears off. But if Gaga released one, that'd be shocking and interesting because that's something she's never done before. Besides, I don't think the novelty of surprise albums will ever wear off. I mean, really think about it. If Gaga, on Friday, released a brand new album full of all new music, would you really be like, "Eh, well Beyonce and Taylor already did that, so whatever..."? No, you wouldn't. You'd be ecstatic and elated about it, and so would everyone else. 48 minutes ago, Chromatican said: Gaga doesn't need to be seen as a follower, especially one who jumps on trends years late. I don't think anyone but hardcore stans on twitter would care. Twitter stans may be like, "omg, Taylor already did this. Gaga's so lame," but normal people wouldn't care. They'd be like, "Oh, Gaga released an album? Cool." ᗰᗩYᕼEᗰ || 🦇👹🖤
GenericPhag 143
She could pull one off, but I'm not sure if it even fits her. Something I could see her doing if she were to ever try some sort of big surprise drop is doing a big rollout and then surprise drop a visual album along with the album. Pandauralife 732
Listen, a surprise album drop is exactly what I NEED right now. I really don't care how the novelty of a surprise album drop would come across to the gp. I feel like we've passed the point of anything truly being shocking. That's basically how she spent the late 00's and 10's... we're all 'shocked' out. Who among us would not be LIVING for new material?
