Marina (and the Diamonds)

First I had only seen the Primadonna and HTBAH video's, and I didn't realise Electra Heart was a character. Even tho I liked those 2 songs, I got too turned off by the bratty persona at the time to be interested in more. I was young and took the lyrics to seriously I guess.

I rediscovered her a few years ago and started to really love her music. She is one of my faves now.

Lana Del Rey. Video Games was so different that I didn't truly take it in but loved Born To Die, so I was a bit more interested in her upcoming album. I approached her debut album like any other and thought it was more of a very good but not an excellent. But then the songs grew on me like nothing before and it didn't take me long to realise her entire album was genius. I bought it a few weeks later and have bought everything from her ever since. I think she was so different to everyone around at the time that so many people didn't know how to react to her and her greatness took a while to grow on a lot of people.

Carly Rae Jepsen. Thought she was really basic with Call Me Maybe but then I just relaxed and gave in to the cheesy pop vibe of it, listened to some more of the follow-ups and ended up asking for her Kiss album for Christmas (which I still think is her best album, I don't get why Emotion gets all the accolades). She makes really solid pop music as it turns out and just because it's girly fun pop doesn't make it bad.

Natalia Kills. Didn't think that much of her Perfectionist album but then she put out Trouble and I fell in love. The songs she made as part of a collective with her husband were really good too. It's a shame that the publicity stunt ruined her career because her album got good reviews even though hardly anyone knew it existed.

I started liking Ariana more and more when she released My Everything (although her recent works are rather hit and miss0. Dua Lipa has been growing on me lately. And yes, even Taylor Swift to an extent, who I started liking more when she released Reputation and I do admit she has got progressively better since 1989 (which I also gave a better review to, upon reflection).

Not sure how popular he is outside of Ireland, but I despised Dermot Kennedy for the longest time. However, I’ve recently become obsessed with his music.
