Hundreds of Brit tourists escape Covid quarantine on Swiss Ski resort

Hundreds of British holidaymakers who were meant to be self-isolating at a Swiss ski resort have reportedly broken quarantine and their whereabouts are unclear.

Switzerland has banned UK arrivals because of concerns about the spread of a new variant of coronavirus. Those who arrived before the ban, or after 14 December, were told to self-isolate for 10 days in order to limit the potential spread of the new strain.  

About 200 out of more than 400 British tourists at Verbier left overnight between Saturday and Sunday. Hoteliers reportedly noticed guests had secretly departed when calls to rooms went unanswered and meals left outside doors were untouched.

A top Brexiteer and former diplomat is among hundreds of Brits who fled Switzerland to avoid a quarantine.  Andy Wigmore, a spokesman for Leave.EU, was holidaying at the ski resort when he received a message from Swiss authorities informing him of the mandatory quarantine coming into effect on December 22. 

Wigmore with his family fled to France that day, reaching the border 20 minutes before the quarantine began.

He and his family caught a train to Paris and arrived in London on December 23.

All my coworkers were planning holiday get togethers with eachother and my Province is in lockdown again and literally asked ppl not to meet with anyone outside their immediate household

 

Do ppl ever listen? No

 

My city in particular is a bunch of fines everyday for ppl breaking gathering rules, months later after countless headlines of large fines ppl still have parties. What the actual hell

Both are to blame. If the Government had acted sooner, like banning all travel, then people wouldn't have had the opportunity to "escape". But on the other hand, you have the ignorant people who disobey the rules like these people who fled to the Alps. And if people behave like that, then the UK Government should have taken that opportunity away from them before they had a chance to go elsewhere. I fully blame the government as much as I blame the ignorant, selfish people who do stupid stuff like the people in the article
