Chromatica changes that would’ve made it perfect

ARTPOP

Featured Posts

After 7 months of its release, Chromatica has grown on me in different ways. However, I thought these changes to the songs could be made to fit my perception of perfection :flower:

what would you change?

1- Alice: Personally one of my faves. However it should have been faster, the way it slows down in the prechorus is not helping . Her robotic voice in the bridge is good but the way the instrumental on it doesn’t match the rest of the song and is very slow kills the ryhthm :poot:

2-SL: amazing pop song, the tempo is faster. Great production, the chorus could use more of Gaga’s voice. The verses are amazing sonically however the bridge’s lyrics sound so forced and unnatural. Given the writers on the song I expected a better lyrics.

3- ROM: perfect song, the dance break is perfect and matches the song. I feel like they focused so much on perfecting ROM that they forgot about the rest of the tracks.

4- FW: I know this what most LM’s complain about (Demo>>>) but here are my reasons.  The production is “ok”  but the instrumental fading in the prechorus is a buzzkill. The dance break is soooo unnecessary, ROM baseline is unique and makes the dance break enjoyable. The verses are too good but what a waste of potential :saladga:

5- Fun Tonight: probably the most song that grew on me. However, I feel something is Missing. I love the prechorus, those vocals! But I think there  shouldn’ve been louder and more clear through the whole song. The chorus should be more than just “I am not having tonight”, I know this adds more to the meaning of the lyrics for it be anticlimactic.

It reminds  a lot of Firework, the strings being added to the prechorus complement the vocals a lot. I wish the chorus was as explosive

6- 911: LOVE IT! Only comments would be to have a faster chorus, probably a real bridge to kill the monotony.

7- Plastic doll: probably the perfect song structure that fits Gaga’s voice. However the I E I E.. intro and outro are horrendous.  The lyrics could be improved. Again, the tempo should’ve been faster, similar to this mashup. The explosive chrous is everything though

8- Sour Candy: Amazing song! But I am not a big fan of a lot of Features on a track, I would love for Gaga to have a Rose only feature. A longer track also.

9- Enigma: It is the sound I imagined what Chromatica would sound like before listening to it. Damn those vocals :excited:The chorus is not the best but it is as loud and explosive as it should be (Unlike FW and FT) The verses lyrics are no the best, the bridge is beautiful.

10- Replay: Perfection!!! Highlight of the album, wish it was longer

11- The verses are beautiful and the piano  The prechorus is perfect too, however the post chrous is so generic that makes me dismiss everything that preceded :madge:

The dance break is soooo unnecessary, sounds like a bad remix. I love Elton’s voice but the way that Gaga’s voice Trumps him and it drags the song. I would remove the dance breaks, remove Elton from this version and probably add him to the piano version

12- probably my least favorite but the lyrics are beautiful, not a fan of the chorus.  :crossed:

13: Babylon: Eventhough the demo >>> i still love the song, lyrically it is one of the smartest lyrics on here. I love the choir, animal sounds and the mechanical sounds. They make it so special. Even though i love the chorus was stronger. I wish the HL version is released eventually.

Overall, I felt that some songs were mixed and changed to fit the production theme  of having a dance break like ROM (kind of unnecessary). I felt that they focused a lot on perfecting ROM,SL, 911 and SC that some songs felt weak at some points and the structure felt inorganic (Alice SFA FW)

I would love if someone can mashup FT and Firework :flower:

What do y’all think?

What would you improve

the problem with chromatica is that a lot little monsters don't like that is has a "rounded" sound throughout, aka no Sophie sharp and precise hitting synths/basses that make it more unique/ daring and less generic :huntyga:

The main thing I wish was changed was that the orchestral interludes were more solidly integrated into the album. As in elements of the melodies and arrangements would maybe reappear in some of the songs. Or at least that the songs would feature strings more heavily - particularly Alice, I think the transition from CI to Alice could've been more grandiose.

I also wish that, after hearing the demos, maybe they'd kept a bit more of the 90s house elements. Especially on FW.

Sour Candy could definitely have done with a second BP verse. Jisoo's voice especially just sounds so perfect over that beat - I would love to hear even a solo song from her in that style.

Plastic Doll is a really great song in terms of production, melodies, vocals. But lyrically:awkney: The i-e-i-e part makes it almost unlistenable. Like I'd be way too embarrassed to ever play it at a party due to that part.

Overall though there are almost no skips and I listen to the whole album very regularly.

This fan base keeps expecting some 'industrial experimental techno trance pop' record, and I fear to inform them that that's probably never happening :air:

I would only put a good chorus on Stupid Love instead of this thing we got. The album is absolutely flawless to me otherwise

The songs were already great as it is after a few listens (and also after listening to the official instrumentals), but maybe some changes would be a better, more fitting production for Fun Tonight, and make Sour Candy longer (more rapping, less English). Also I would switch the Rain On Me with the leaked demo (the one with Ariana with more echoes and runs), especially because I disliked the way it abruptly cuts in the end.

I would also probably make it a more continuous album, instead of it having just with 1-2 songs with transitions (like the whole 3rd act of Chromatica) and of course, make it a VISUAL album. If it was a visual album, I wouldn't really care about the singles anymore.

Off topic but I also wish for a repackaged album or maybe a better boxset, like this one I made:

I do have a feeling when this genre takes off when she's forty she'll probably come around to this :giggle:

Am I the only one who likes the IE IE part in plastic doll? I find it fun and to me it hints that she’s malfunctioning. Also I prefer free woman album version

SHALLOW

I would remove SL, Fun Tonight, 1000 doves amd SFA entirely, give FW and ROM some elements from their demos, add Love me right, give Gaga more to sing on Sour Candy

I would just make the songs longer and change SFA + 1000 Doves to be stripped down, they didn't need to be dance songs.

It's the best part :vegas: Very old school Gaga.

Chromataludes could have integrated a little more of the songs mixed in. (CII->911 is still iconic tho)

Alice should have had a basic structure with a full second verse or a bridge.

Stupid Loves bridge was lazy lyrically. I hate when bridges are just the chorus repeated in a different way

ROM perfection

Free Woman should have been the length of the demo, no dancbreak, it could have been one of her best songs ever

Fun Tonight is missing something but I can’t put my finger on it.

911 is perfect

Sour Candy should’ve been longer with another verse and bridge. I like the interesting structure tho

Enigma is perfect but it would have been really interesting to see her do a really diverse song of different genres and sounds that somehow flows together

Replay and Sine are perfect

1000 Doves is basic. Her vocals are amazing but I just think the lyrics are cringe and cheesy. Piano version is more suiting

Babylon is really good. I don’t think I’d change anything.

Overall, making each song 3:30-4:30 mins with proper choruses and bridges is my biggest complaint. I would also like to hear a little more layers, harmonies, and background vocals in general. But it’s honestly a spectacular album and I still enjoy listening just as much as I did when it came out

Actually the least “rounded” songs on Chromatica are dragging the record.
IF she kept FW SFA to the normal pop structure like Plastic Doll it would have been better.
I am not expecting Sophie production, like I love 911 but I dont think Gaga would do an album full with this sound. However, I think BP could have worked more on it and Gaga should have been more involved in the production

Alice‘s verses are too short but **** the streaming era I guess

Stupid Love is sonically brilliant but lacks a good chorus and bridge since it has two good verses and pre choruses

Rain On Me I wish it had the galactic intro of the demo (not the solo demo one)

Free Woman is one of her best songs and the dance break is ICONIC if you imagine the late 80s early 90s ambience behind this song

Fun Tonight is build up perfectly

911 is a masterpiece

Plastic Doll‘s intro is wrong for having an I-E-I-E part they should have kept it only for the last chorus it would have been a highlight

Sour Candy is just too short, this is the only song that necessarily needed a Blackpink dance break or a Gaga bridge

Enigma is a career highlight

Replay lacks nothing

SFA is also a masterpiece, if this one was on Born This Way or ARTPOP y‘all would have lost your **** and DON‘T U try to disrespect the theatrical outro

1000 Grammys.

Babylon. After all the debates and listenings I switched back on wanting the HL version just because it sounded so unique... the album version just reminds you too much of the v-word song
