Jose P 23,341
Little Monsters are truly such a pretentious fanbase She’s a mainstream artist, her image will always be used to sell things and endorse brands, that’s how it goes. Y’all pretending like you stan an indie/underground artist, you don’t, and never have. Are we forgetting all the brand sponsorships at the beginning of her career? Or the tons of product placements in Telephone? God, I wish Gaga had never used that “music not the bling” line because now everyone will use it against her for the rest of her career whenever she makes money lol. Marilyn MonHoe 9,917
I just have to say thank you @Chromatican for stemming the tide of the never ending negativity that’s been brewing on GGD for the past few weeks. Critique is always fine but some of you are being so dramatic and over the top it’s ridiculous.

We know she has issues feeling objectified, and that’s ultimately why “music, not the bling”. She’s said before she has no problem backing brands that align with her vision and ultimately give her coin to do what she loves. That’s why we got that crazy SXSW show sponsored by Doritos. It has been said that a lot of stuff she’s been working on was delayed due to COVID, because they are tied into sponsorships and some of these companies don’t want to launch anything right now. The Oreo campaign is arguably the biggest one she’s had since the “Stupid Love” x Apple partnership all the way back in February, so I would say it’s a good sign that things are about to get moving. She said she wants the music to be heard everywhere, and brand alignment is what does that and appeals to different audiences because of the various places the ads are featured. Dua Lipa’s “Physical” was a crossover with Pepe Jeans, The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” had a tie in with Mercedes Benz, etc. That’s not even scratching the surface of all the brands tied to those massive campaigns. Chromatica will be no different. That’s just the way the industry works these days because nobody buys music anymore. I get it’s frustrating, but it’s not like she can back out of these things when she takes their money. I would also argue that since the tour was delayed, it makes far more sense to do most of the promotion (videos, performances, interviews) when people are actually wanting to buy tickets to an event. It benefits her far more to wait than essentially waste promo spots way too early and have people forget she had done anything at all. This is where she makes most of her money, and if the rumors are true that it wasn’t selling that great to begin with, she’s probably going to be working very hard to make sure it does when the time comes. I get your points and I do agree but I never called her a “puppet”. I’m pretty sure you quoted the wrong person on that. Also I said I’m okay with her not doing anything and just enjoying her life doing other things than promoting. I’m just saying if she wanted to be on every show she would have been. That’s not what Gaga wants though. Fans need to adjust to that reality. But I get that it’s easier and more fun for many to just complain and wallow in nostalgia. Enigma 7,182
Obviously you were gonna get hate from the little defenders for this, but you’re right. People fail to realize there’s a difference between including some ads there and there (which is normal) and putting them in everything you do. It is normal that at the beginning of her career she would do lots of corporate gigs, since she had to secure the bag. But once she blew up, she wasn’t doing them as much. There aren’t many ads in the BTW, ARTPOP or even Joanne vids. Yet, every Chromatica release has been tied with a brand. It’s not the fact that she is trying to make money that bothers us. It becomes a problem when it impacts the quality of her work. For instance, the Apple deal made her film her MV on an IPHONE. This resulted in a cheap MV that could have been so much better, especially since it was her lead after years of waiting for a full-blown pop album. I was very excited for Haus Labs when it was announced, because knowing Gaga, I knew she’d go all the way both in terms of quality and originality. Turns out... the products are getting mixed reviews and the creative direction is a complete failure. There’s nothing innovative about the brand, and it’s literally an Amazon partnership. It’s the definition of an uninspired cash-grab. Enigma had me hyped up so much (my username was Enigma since a year before it was even announced). Even the trailers for it were amazing. And... this is what we got. Sure, it’s not awful by any means... but the costumes were tacky, the visuals in general were lacking, there was nothing fresh about it. It was literally just a greatest hits show for the GP, not for the fans. It is completely normal to notice a tendancy to do things for cash and half-ass them right now. Thankfully, she still does amazing stuff. The ROM and 911 vids were amazing. Chromatica is one of her top albums. The VMA performance was great. Only problem is that we get 1 performance an era VS 5 corporate deals a month. It feels off.
