People defending literal child sex traffickers for a good pay... I think it's for the sake of innocent until proven guilty which obviously is important, but defending someone guilty means having to try and destroy the image of the victim to the point where a jury finds it a lot more muddled and hard to trust them

The Epstein/Maxwell case is very complex and she needs a lawyer in order to the court to clearly understand what occurred / make a conclusion. Yes, I would agree she likely guilty and probably deserves a life sentence — as an outsider. But from a legal perspective, she deserves the same representation of anyone else and the lawyer is not remotely “at fault” for any horrors she committed. They are simply doing their job. Maxwell doesn't deserve one. Obviously in a capitalist society she'll get one because if one refuses for morals, the next one is gonna jump on the opportunity to make cash. Do I have a solution? No. I'm just saying in my dream society someone who pleads / was proven guilty of such things would be sentenced right from the bat with no trial or anything of the sort. I am very aware of the concept, I just personally would find the job of defending her deeply unpleasant and unsavoury. I think Defense lawyers can do good but I also think it’s disgusting when the slimy ones slander victims to try to get their client off. Personally my ethical code wouldn’t allow me to do that. How do you think under those regimes people were treated? Suspected criminals, political opponents and suspected sedicious persons....were thrown in jail with no rights, no trial, no procedural safeguards... what you're saying is plain IGNORANT and DANGEROUS. this is how a dictatorship and authoritarian regimes work. I would strongly advise you to spend several years in school or read a lot to get educated on those BASIC PRINCIPLES, such as the presumption of innocence, the right to a fair trial, and so on and so on, which are the CORNERSTONES of JUSTICE and DEMOCRACY, and are HUMAN RIGHTS entrenched in basic document such as THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS here is the link https://www.un.org/en/universal-declaration-human-rights/index.html

I’m sure you are some European Monster though, one that would bend over backwards to authoritarian corruption if it meant making the world simpler Well, it’s basically a human right to get a fair trial, lawyer included. So them being European doesn’t have anything to do with it. But them being uneducated and unwilling to see the consequences of allowing certain people to be prosecuted without a fair trial and a defense has a lot to do with it.
