Massive Monster 2,106 Posted November 24, 2020 Do you remember Arcade Fire's 2011 album of the year grammy award winning album? It won against The Fame Monster. A new sounding creative synth pop giant stadium filling cultural phenomenon and arguably what cemented Gaga as an icon/legend, most influential person and most talked about person at the time. It wasn't just the crazy outfits, it was the music and performances. They were comparing her status to Madonna after only 3 years for crying out loud. That album and its songs are classics. My point is: yes we might be mad that Chromatica didn't get a nomination in AOTY and feel like she's being "snubbed" in the "major" categories, but... The Fame Monster lost America Exblain My real point is... don't worry girl. Chromatica is loved, successful and will be talked about for a while. It's Gaga. (Look how ARTPOP trended several times on Twitter not a long time ago way passed its release years before) And hopefully there's more to come in this era (prays for SFA and Replay as singles) Voila Kind regards 16 Quote Share
 Facebook Twitter

sexy 2,297 Posted November 24, 2020 The Suburbs is a dope album, i wish TFM had won, but if any of those nominated albums was gonna beat it, I'm glad it was The Suburbs (and not Teenage Dream or Recovery lol) 5 Quote Share
 Facebook Twitter
Massive Monster 2,106 Posted November 24, 2020 I probably need to listen to The Suburbs entirely. I know a few Arcade Fire songs. I hope I don't sound like someone who only listens to Gaga, or "mainstream" and "pop" music But I think it's still interesting that TFM lost when we now see the longetivity. It really puts things into perspective. Kind regards 1 Quote Share
 Facebook Twitter

The question is: if all these albums were voted into that category, what exactly was the criteria that gave Arcade the edge? As an NYT put it, the Grammys like "old-sounding youngs", critical acclaim or popularity be damned. Wasn't it the next year Beck won over Kanye and even Beck was like what? Edit: @Massive Monster sorry, the bold words got spellchecked wrong Edited November 25, 2020 by KNJ "She's an intellectual, your honor" 1 Quote Share
 Facebook Twitter

Anderson123 12,129 Posted November 24, 2020 And she still won 3 Grammys that night. One for Pop Vocal Album and 2 for Bad Romance which is pretty huge in my opinion. I'm glad it lost to Arcade Fire and not Katy Perry. 1 1 Quote Share
 Facebook Twitter

Cuz Arcade lost both of their genre album and genre performance noms (both snatched up by The Black Keys). There HAS to be a flaw(s) in the process if an album can lose best album, best recording in their genre and all technical awards; but somehow still be crowned the best album released in ALL of music in that ENTIRE year? The same problem with the Oscars: how the ever loving hell is Greenbook the height of excellence in all of cinema in 2018?!? GagaSine 3,367 Posted November 26, 2020 (edited) I love Arcade Fire so i’m not mad lol but ppl need to understand award shows do not follow a scientific method, ‘best’ has a general definition and awards are not handed out on merit alone. There is a lot of other factors. it’s like the judging on drag race, the queen that wins/loses is not necessarily the best/worst. Things like attitude, personality, history, societal implications, trends, etc are all considered, and not the same way all the time Once you understand this awards also feel less important/meaningful. Agunimon 7,906 Posted November 26, 2020 Sorry, but The Suburbs was a solid body of work and her losing to it has me unbothered. 1 1 Quote Share
 Facebook Twitter
Quartz 10,643 Posted November 26, 2020 I mean, she got snubbed so many times that it doesn't make sense in hindsight. It's just the norm. Grammy voters are not forward-thinking enough, and even 10 years in, they still underestimate Gaga. Lmao, losing the major Grammy for Shallow was one of the biggest blunders. It's still effing charting and will continue to do so for years to come. Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊 1 Quote Share
 Facebook Twitter
Justin Drew Bieber 12,652 Posted November 26, 2020 The Fame Monster WAS the album of the year, better music too, it was a movement 1 Quote Share
 Facebook Twitter

I thought they were gonna make up for that by letting ARUTW get the SOTY Grammy earlier this year but they just used her for ratings 1 Quote Share
 Facebook Twitter
