BUtterfield 8 40,718
Now, there might not be a more bankable pop star than Grande when it comes 2 launching a new track atop the Hot 100, & the record she set earlier this year w/ “Rain On Me” has only grown. 1. She’s always been a top 10 mainstay. Although Grande didn’t reach the top of the Hot 100 until she released the lead single of her fifth full-length in 2018, she had been getting close 2 the summit since the beginning of her pop career in 2013, when her debut single “The Way” with Mac Miller reached No. 9 on the chart. In the years that followed, Grande amassed 10 total top 10 hits prior to “Thank U, Next,” including the 2014 smash “Problem” w/ Iggy Azalea, that made it 2 No. 2. All 6 of Grande’s albums boast at least 1 top 10 hit on their track list, demonstrating the consistency that helped make her a headliner well before she had guided a single to No. 1. 2. She released Thank U, Next, which pushed her to a new level. Ultimately, Grande’s speedy return w/ “Thank U, Next” yielded the 1st Hot 100 No. 1 single, & No. 1 debut, of her career. The title track 2 Thank U, Next spent 7 nonconsecutive weeks atop the chart, & its follow-up, “7 Rings,” notched another No. 1 debut & eight total weeks atop the chart after its January 2018 release. Grande had been a major star prior 2 the release of her Thank U, Next album -- just look at the impressive performance of the full-length that arrived 6 months before it -- but her fifth project made it clear that she now ranked among the very biggest acts in modern pop. 3. She released smart collaborations during her downtime. “Stuck With U,” a quarantine anthem w/ Justin Bieber & “Rain On Me,” a dance-pop team-up w/ Lady Gaga 4 her Chromatica album. Both tracks debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, just 2 weeks apart from each other; “Rain On Me” became the 1st collaboration between female artists 2 start atop the chart, & made Grande the 1st artist 2 have 4 No. 1 debuts in the chart’s history. Teaming up w/ superstars certainly helped amplify the songs’ respective reaches -- Bieber & Gaga had each scored top 10 hits on their own earlier in 2020, & their fan bases are among the most rabid in pop -- but Grande’s own commercial power, at an all-time high following Thank U, Next, also ensured massive chart bows 2 tide her fans over in between projects. She engineered a surprising, well-executed return. “Positions” represented a slick, rhythmic change-up 4 Grande -- & the fanfare around the release ensured a record-extending start at No. 1 on the Hot 100, with 35.3 million US streams & 34k downloads in its 1st week of release. 5. She’s continued to evolve, while keeping her singles quality high. As Grande has vaulted into the upper echelon of pop superstars, her No. 1 debuts on the Hot 100 encapsulate how her critical & commercial appeal keeps soaring higher. Everybody loves what she’s doing right now, & as her apex continues, so may her record of Hot 100-topping debuts. Source Legend!

PxA limited 741
I like Ariana, but Positions just doesn’t cut it for me. no.1 song doesn’t mean its a good one. She had better song that landed no where on the charts and a few stupid ones that were number one or smth. Sometimes its more because the person is too famous that everything they put out gets massive attention.

JusKeepBreathin 19,311
She's always been a streaming powerhouse. A girl ahead of her time because streaming has never been as important as it is now that pure sales are dead. RainingOnMe 7,250
Weird. I never felt like any of her bodies of work had any authenticity whatsoever until Positions. Sweetener, Dangerous Woman, and Thank U, Next are albums mostly comprised of songs she had nothing to do with besides recording vocals. They never felt like an Ariana album. But I really loved all songs on Positions but 2 and was really happy she did a majority of the writing.

RainingOnMe 7,250
Just now, Contessa said: TU,N has a good amount of very personal tracks though. She took her real life experiences to her songwriter friend Victoria Monet who wrote all the lyrics, so yeah I guess. She took the wheel for Positions which is why I loved it. It definitely felt much more authentic and real than her ghostwriter albums.
