The US election system is so long and such a messy disaster though... In France you just vote for your future president, and you get the final result on the very same day

God, this system is a mess. Why can’t they just use the popular vote? It seems much fairer.

The system is setup to ensure less populated states can’t just be overrun by more populated states. From that standpoint it works, as we saw last election with Trump winning.  The individual states decide how to allocate electors. In theory the electoral college is supposed to allow overruling the electorate electing a fascist demogogue but obviously that didn’t work

Why else would Trump be so scared of Pennsylvania if he's so sure he's going to win? Makes you think, huh?

It's just really funny because even if they stop the count in Michigan, Biden is still ahead lol. He's leading in several states so if we just stop counting now, he's still winning.

Ikr, and that only worsens issues of democratic legitimacy. The more accessible and simple a system is, the more people will trust it.

Its purpose was to give more representation to slave states. That’s it.

This theory about it being about protecting smaller states is a modern twist we were all brainwashed with as kids.

Abolish the Electoral College.

A bit of info: Biden has cut his margin in PA significantly in the last couple of hours as they count mail in votes. 1.07M ballots remain and Biden votes outnumber Trump 6:1 by mail ins. Biden is on track to win PA with 6 figures (200-300k is realistic but it could definitely be lower)

Arizona is set to announce their final results around 7PM EST, there are 350k outstanding votes, mostly in Phoenix. Right now Biden is still expected to hold the state but it could swing to trump.

Georgia is expected to announce their final results tonight, the race is really really close with the remaining 200k votes in dem strongholds in Atlanta. Biden is still favored to win but its pretty much a tossup at this point.

If Biden can keep AZ and win GA, then he will be called winner tonight. If he doesnt get both then the winner will more than likely be called tomorrow. Trump doesnt have a path to 270 at this point, it's just delaying the inevitable.

So who agrees with the idea that Biden needs to claim victory today or early tomorrow?

I see a lot of that being thrown around on Twitter. Tbh, I'd like to get the final tally for Michigan first.

Declaring yourself the winner of race that isn't over is coup vibes. It sows confusion, shows aggression and should not be done by anyone with integrity. Hence Trump doing so for weeks :fail:

Yeah, but does regional representation matter that much here? In Congress, of course - that’s why the senate exists. But in a presidential election it just breaks the equality among voters. At least that’s how I see it.
