Stilwell says many contracts state that re-recording those songs is prohibited until “the later of two years following the expiration of the agreement or five years after the commercial release.” If that common language were present in Swift’s contract, the only album that will not be fair game in the near future will be 2017’s Reputation. Everything up to her 2014 album 1989 could be re-released by Swift either independently or through her new deal with Republic and Universal in late 2020.

I just read a times article about this.  Bc TS was the lead songwriter, she can approve it.

Music rights are infamously complicated, but owning the master recordings — the original copies of an artist’s work — and the associated copyright is not everything. While the owner of a master typically has the ability to sell songs and albums, as well as license the recordings to movies, television and video games, there are separate rights for the composition itself, which is usually split among the songwriters. When a song is covered, for instance, the songwriters are compensated; when it is sampled from the original recording, both the songwriters and the owner of the master benefit.

In most standard recording contracts, labels retain ownership over masters in return for the investment they make in unproven artists in the form of recording, promotion and other expenditures.

i'm really excited for these rerecordings. i still wonder if she's doing like all the songs / albums or if it's like a retrospective for like a greatest hits sort of thing

Scooter is clearly keeping her masters out of spite at this point. He should strike a fair deal with her as soon as possible otherwise the value of her music that he owns will decrease drastically as brands, companies, studios etc..who will want to lease the copyright for her classic hits will have the option of signing a deal with her instead of him and I have a feeling she will offer them a cheaper price so that she can circumvent Scooter striking deals with his version of her music. He needs to take the L and strike a lucrative deal to sell her her masters. I have a feeling he could even mark up the price and Taylor would be more than willing to purchase them all. He would still make a profit! He is just doing this out of a vengful weird obsession at this point and it looks really bad on him. As a succesful business man he should know this is a bad look for him and will make MANY artists weary of ever working with him. It gives the illusion that he a sketchy and sneaky guy to do business with.

What‘s the point of these re-recordings can someone explain to me? Will she release it like a greatest hits album?

I mean Taylors voice hasn’t change or is it going to be a re-recording with new arrangements? Or is it to have new rights on her songs?

maybe she’s include some adlibs she does when she performs live, is live for that
