This is why if you're going to buy something digitally, buy it through iTunes. You can download your purchased file to your hard drive and back it up, so you'll have it forever.

I'm pretty sure Amazon doesn't let you download the files you purchase, rather you must stream them through the browser or app. That's why this lady was upset - her content disappeared. It's pretty shady of Amazon to do this and not warn its customers.

Do not buy digital media from Amazon.

I don't think that's what anyone means when they say they want to 'own' a movie. They mean they want to have control over a copy that is always available for viewing.

The woman was upset because she thought it worked like purchasing a physical copy. Where when you buy it, that copy is yours. That's not the case here. If amazon were to remove said item for whatever reason, it'd show up in her library as "unavailable" or not show up at all. Unlike with a physical copy where the place you purchased it from isn't going to come to your home randomly and take it from you.

I guess that's true but also it isn't a secret to anyone and it is sure in the terms of agreement she agreed in order to sign up for the service. And also, except for the originals, streaming services also don't own what they stream, they only have the distribution rights for a certain period of time, like the Friends and Netflix situation, Warner, the true owner, just decided to remove it from there after the contract was up and Netflix couldn't do a thing about it. It does suck that things work like that but just sayin

Hence why these members said physicals are better and choose to buy physicals since once you bought a BluRay or DVD or CD, it's yours. Those studios can't take it back from you. They won't go to your home and take those physicals away from your CD racks.

Not people acting like they own physical copies of the media they own. No, it’s still not yours. Yeah you cant get it stolen from the company, but if you lose it or it gets destroyed, then you’re outta luck. Both digital and physical have their weaknesses.

No, you misunderstand. If you legally cannot earn money from the bluray you bought, then you literally do not own it. People bringing up physical copies as if they’re better are so out of place. It’s just different.

Amazon’s trashy but like I cant drag them for upholding a standard held decades before they were a thing. Physical users don’t get a leg up either. Just because you own the physical CD of a piece of content, doesn’t mean you actually own the content itself. If this lady’s content was actually deleted then they need to restore it for her. Companies wont delete content unless something absolutely insane happens, like you viscously breaching your contract, or the company going out of business. The lawsuit was a waste and honestly cringey.

At this point it's literally just semantics  I doubt anyone on the first page championing physical copies thinks they legally OWN the intellectual property, no one is arguing that at all. Not even the woman in the lawsuit. People just want to have control over whether they get to watch something they bought or not.

Even if you buy physical you don't actually own the product and can be sued if you use them for money or even free.

Like you can't just broadcast the last Avengers movie on a big screen in the middle of the neighborhood for all the people to watch just because u bought the blu-ray from walmart for $9.99
