NBC moves historically-red Texas to "tossup" in presidential race

I will truly be shocked (and impressed) if Texas turns blue this time around. I don't see it happening, at all, but it would be a very very welcome surprise and a good sign for a hopeful future.

Texas has the country's fastest growing cities which the incoming population is by far majority democrat, I even moved here a little over a year ago to San Antonio and have already done my part to vote blue 

Awesome! How do you like the city so far? I live near San Antonio in a small town known as Pearsall, but I’ve been visiting San Antonio my entire life (and was also born there). And two years ago I graduated with my B.A. from UTSA.

I don't know much about American politics but I know enough to confidently say Texas is and will always remain red.

Georgia is more obtainable than Texas, and from their recent campaign stop I think their internal data is showing promise for it too.

Well you should definitely look more into it, because your confidence is not shared by anyone, even Republicans. Due to demographic shifts, Texas is going blue by 2028 at the latest.

So why are you speaking about it then?  

I'm from Texas myself, and trust me, the state is not as red as many think it is. The demographics are shifting, and they're shifting quickly. I live in a mostly white, conservative suburban neighorhood, and just within literally a block of where I live, I've seen 3 Biden/Harris signs. And I've never seen people here put out signs for literally any politician in their front lawn. 

Texas will eventually become a blue state. It's only a matter of time, and once that happens, Republicans will have a veeeeeery difficult time winning the presidency in the future.

Ummm...no, if you look at polling, Texas is relatively competitive. Sure, at the end of the day it's probably still going to Trump, but it's about the percent difference between Biden and Trump that's telling. Consistently, Democrats have been narrowing the percent difference between themselves and Republicans for years. Beto only lost in 2018 by 2.8%.

Tbh the math works where they can and Biden still wins lol Biden basically just needs to win michigan, wisconsin, and pennsylvania and can lose the other states everyone is talking about flipping this year.

 

It would be v cool if Texas went blue, though. It would decimate Trump's chances rather than just insult them lol

Eh I think the GOP still has a chance with Texas. If they can turn the narrative back to not being anti Mexican they could put a wedge in the Dem advantage. They almost did it in 2016 before Trump bumbled in and ruined their pivoting strategy. I'm imagining a GOP AOC-type rising up and being the first woman president as it is clear the GOP is much more susceptible to a hostile takeover than the DNC.

I'd like to think they don't have a chance in doing that, but...people have short term memories.

The only substantively material thing that Trump has done differently from republican orthodoxy in policy and governance is trade . USMCA, tariffs, and trade war with china. Other than that his policies are the same as any other republican.
