Its not about completely stopping, its about delaying. Impeach Brett for lying under oath, which automatically gets out above a judge confirmation, delaying the hearing until after the election where she can’t Bush v. Gore Trump into a second term. They also could have ask for unanimous consent on every vote from now til Nov 30, budget limit them, limit the debt ceiling... so many things done to Democrats and they just take the abuse.

For an anti-Trump opposition party... they really didn’t do **** other than tweet 🤢 Its so annoying lmao

The least they can do now is expand the court. Biden’s washy but probably for optics. I’ll freak out when Biden rejects it after the election.

That would take two thirds of the Senate to impeach a SC justice. Even if Dems win back the Senate, they won’t have two thirds of the Senate.

They impeached Trump. Very few Presidents have been impeached.

Democrats can’t expand the court unless they win all three branches. Biden has not been “washy”. He has said he would go forward with review and from there to reform,

You’ll freak out, no matter what happens.

You aren’t “us”. No one pushed anyone on you, because you don’t live here. You don’t vote in our elections. You will not be impacted by the rulings on basic human rights from this Supreme Court.

There are people here who are legitimately scared of losing their basic human rights, and you take this opportunity to complain about Biden.

First, Biden has to win...and win overwhelmingly enough to keep Trump and the Supreme Court from giving the office back to Trump. Secondly, we have to win back the Senate to do any kind of “Court packing”.

Everything isn’t as easy and black and white as you imagine it to be inside your head.

People here at GGD and in this country are phone banking, volunteering, donating, and standing in line for hours to vote. You are whining about Biden, from your house in Canada.

Yes, “us.” Tell the dead children and innocent civilians in the middle east that Obama bombed that U.S. elections have no impact on them.

Don’t bring up “vote for Biden so” when I haven’t said don’t vote for Biden/vote third party. Just because you’re ignorant of practical hardball solutions doesn’t mean “they’re all in my head.” How do you think Republicans get away with so much ****? By listening to people like you? Look at how bad they’re winning rn.

Stream O Canada btw <3

All i am going to say is thank god they are not listening to people like you because you obviously have no idea how it works. How the hell are they going to impeach him when they don't hold the majority? They tried it with trump in case you forgot and it failed because republicans hold the majority of seats in the senate. They can't delay the hearing, they are not the majority. Gosh i swear you need to read up on how the senate works before being complaining over things you have no idea about. The reason Biden is not giving a straight answer on whether he would expand the courts is because it is a week before an election and we need moderates from both the right and left to help secure a Biden win. If he came out and said yes we are expanding the courts he will lose a lot of votes from the right who are lending him their vote this election because of their dislike of trump. Something will be done about the courts, he knows that is what democrat voters demand, there is a big imbalance right now 6-3 for them, they are not going to just let it slide and let them slowly roll back progress made thus far. He even said on that 60 minutes interview the other day that he will take steps to reform the court because even he knows it is a joke at the moment

If it were not for the hardcore “Bernie or Bust” crowd in 2016, Clinton would had won the election. We know this for a fact because if every single person in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin who voted for the Green Party candidate voted for Clinton instead, Trump would had been forgotten four years ago.

Instead, we have these immature, fundamentalist, confrontational, everything-is-black-and-white crowd who had a temper tantrum because they didn’t get the toy they wanted who either stayed home or voted for Trump. As a result, polluters have run amok as Trump has rolled back the EPA. As a result, we almost lost protections for pre-existing conditions in 2017, saved only by McCain, and can very well lost pre-existing conditions in California v. Texas. As a result, we have a government who responds to the cries of the oppressed Black people with hateful, racist dog whistle language. As a result, federal agents went in to Portland to harass and arrest peaceful protesters. As a result, white supremacists have felt emboldened to act out on their racial hatreds; my childhood best friend’s school with mainly latin@ [1] students was vandalized with pro-Trump graffiti. As a result, young children, children younger than my daughter, were forcibly taken away from their parents, by our government, and hundreds of kids still have not been reunited with their family.

Tell me this, anyone who won’t vote for Biden because he may not implement the exact form of protections for preexisting conditions or environmental protections you want: Was having all those Black people killed by police with the president’s implicit blessing worth it? Was having those kids, some toddlers, torn away from their parents and put in cages away from their family worth it? [2] Was all of the environmental damage done by Trump rolling back EPA protections worth it? Was losing two left-leaning seats on the Supreme Court worth it?

Until when and if we get ranked choice (instant runoff) voting, the only way elections are won in the US is if people vote for someone who only gives them some of what they want. The sooner the Bernie or Bust types realize this, the sooner we can make the Republican party having power an unpleasant memory.

[1] Latin@ is how you say what some call “latinx” in Spanish

[2] Republicans claim Obama started this policy. As usual, they are lying: https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2018/jun/19/matt-schlapp/no-donald-trumps-separation-immigrant-families-was/

You’d think if Jill Stein was the reason the Dem party lost, everyone in the 2020 Dem primary would try and be more progressive like her. Meanwhile, most weren’t, and Biden’s just like Hillary, probably even more right wing. Proving your leaders cant read their own base isn’t the gotcha you think it is...

But democrats cant do anything about Amy, meanwhile they can fight within their own party :bradley: theyre in the senate minority and republicans are determined to make sure they get a supermajority in the supreme court, no matter what the democrats could have tried it wouldn't have worked.

Here's the thing- thats completely impossible. The court (regardless of how we view it) is a cornerstone of the US and the core principles of the country, ignoring would be so extremely dangerous and would set a precedent that would very much backfire. Of course there are cases where expanding the court was a threat to get through a certain measure, but ignoring it would have such immeasurable consequences, it's not worth it.

The best thing democrats can do (only if they get the supermajority), is to expand the court or to impeach and there has only been 1 supreme court justice to ever have been impeached in US history (it's been over 200 years), But the only way to impeach is to accuse and convict them of a crime. It's an extremely delicate matter.

I mean they could, and still can, but that meme was more about their trash efforts and priorities.

The impeachment hearing itself would delay the Barrett confirmation. Itd be even harder for Barrett to have been confirmed post-Biden win, but whatever its all over now. The Biden draggings are only gonna intensify if he wins, so get ready for more freakouts :legend:

You aren’t us.

This Supreme Court nomination is the topic.

I didn't tell you to vote for Biden. You can’t vote in the US election.

They are in your head...just like your suggestion to impeach Kavanaugh. That made zero sense.

Listening to people like you got Barrett in the position to pull a Bush v. Gore post-election, so is God really to thank?

“You obviously have no idea how this works” - a person who doesn’t know that hearings would have definitely delayed the Barrett confirmation as they have a higher priority to be dealt. Clearly he won’t be removed, that’s why I didn’t say remove him.

Also, I’m not bashing Biden for not giving a straight answer. He just has been wishy-washy. He has said for a long time that he’s against court packing. Now he’s changing his position... but its for the better so I’m not too mad at that.

"Pro life" - Thinks whether or not a woman decides to get an abortion is a decision the government should make for her

"Pro Choice" - Whether a woman gets an abortion should be a personal, not government, matter.

"ACA" - Affordable Care Act, a system of guaranteed health insurance passed in 2010 and put in to full force in 2014 in the US. It’s imperfect, but it would had saved Marina’s life (she was my wife until she passed away) if it was in force in 2012.

As an aside, if Row v. Wade (the 1970s Supreme Court decision which makes abortion legal in the US) is overturned tomorrow and the southern and flyover states all make abortion illegal next month, it won’t make that big of a difference because pills which abort fetuses are readily available today. That’s how women in Mexico get abortions. It’s a lot harder to outlaw a pill than to outlaw a medical facility.

Back on topic and to something that will be challenged in a couple of weeks:

The ACA's reforms were far reaching. Here are some of its provisions that will disappear if the law is found unconstitutional:

-The federal portion of the Medicaid expansion disappears in states that expanded it.

-The subsidies for those making <400% above poverty level go away.

-Requirement that insurers must cover preventive care, including birth control and immunizations, goes away.

-Insurers can exclude children over the age of 18 from their parents' policies.

-Insurers will be able to deny coverage to those with preexisting conditions again.

-Out-of-pocket maximums go away. Insurers can choose to cover costs to a certain amount, then the patient is obligated to pay everything that goes over the amount.

-The number of employers offering health insurance will probably go down--the ACA penalizes employers with >50 employees that do not offer insurance.

-Approximately 30 million people will lose their health insurance, and a million or more jobs could be lost.

-The way hospitals and providers are paid was changed by the ACA.
