Honestly my guess is they looked at album reviews and SFA had mixed reviews whereas Alice was more generally praised. I also think it’s a more straightforward dance song. Actually, I’d consider it among her MOST straightforward. The others have more pop elements but Alice leans pretty hard into its 90s house and dance roots. If I was Interscope looking at which to submit to this category, I wouldn’t do it based on which is better but on hard metrics. Alice has generally more favorable reviews and technically leans harder into its dance elements than SFA which leans about 50/50 on balladry and dance (which is what makes it a great song but maybe not the best competitor in this category).
