Meghan Markle: "I was the most trolled male or female in the entire world"

Meghan Markle says she was 'the most trolled person, male or female, in the entire world' in 2019

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex gave an exclusive interview on an episode of the "Teenager Therapy" podcast, which aired on Saturday for World Mental Health Day.

The description for the "Teenager Therapy" podcast series says: "Five stressed, sleep-deprived, yet energetic teens sit down and talk about the struggles that come with being a teenager. Is high school really as bad as everyone says?"

In the interview, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry discussed the importance of speaking openly about mental health, how they stay calm in situations that may be nerve-wracking, and how they cope with hardships.

Toward the beginning of the episode, one of the five hosts of "Teenager Therapy" asked Markle and Harry how they deal with feelings of loneliness, especially amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, which has led many people to spend more time on social media.

"If you're not in school, then you're finding yourselves on your devices or online more, and there's a lot of vulnerability there that I think so many people are experiencing," Markle said. "Yes, it's a great way to connect, but it also ends up being a place where there's a lot of disconnection."

"You know, I can speak personally, too. I'm told that in 2019, I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female," Markle said. "Now, eight months of that, I wasn't even visible — I was on maternity leave or with the baby — but was able to just be manufactured and churned out, it's almost unsurvivable."

She continued: "That's so big, you can't even think of what that feels like, because I don't care if you're 15 or you're 25, if people are saying things about you that aren't true, what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging."

Markle's response in the interview was a nod to the backlash she faced in the British press upon becoming a member of the royal family. Markle was often ridiculed in the media for doing the same things as Kate Middleton — who was scarcely criticized — and in court documents for her court case against the Mail on Sunday, Markle said that she felt "unprotected by the institution" as a working member of the royal family.

One of the podcast hosts then asked Markle and Harry how they focus on their wellbeing when they're in the spotlight.

Harry chimed in, saying: "It's a lot. There are good days, there are bad days, but I think putting your self-care as a priority is hugely important because look, vulnerability is not a weakness. Showing vulnerability in today's world especially is a strength and we can certainly see that more from some global leaders."

Ammmm no? She was slandered and trolled by British media but the world didn’t hate her by any means... I feel like to her maybe t felt like the whole world was against her but it’s simply not true. She is supported along with Harry by every single country except UK.

The way she makes it sound like she just sat reading comments on the Internet while she was pregnant

:huntyga:

Americans supported her to the most part, it was the British media that didn’t like her and if she’s really going to talk about trolls on the Internet I don’t think that’s measurable, I can guarantee at any given time there were still more people trolling trump

She seemed to always think that she was uber-important and a celebrity, even early dating Harry. Hardly anyone even cared about her, but it's good that she thinks she is so important. Hope she is good to Harry and they survive together forever with their family.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

I scoffed more than a little bit when I saw this. Notice how she says "I was told" as if to suggest that this isn't her making the assertion, it's other people. As if everyone sees her as a victim, it's a very smart way of making a victim narrative. Everyone knows that Trump's been the most trolled of the last 4 years. If she wanted to say most trolled in Britain or most trolled woman, fine, but man or woman? Again, a further twist of victim narrative. Look, I'm not going to begrudge anyone to right to feel depressed and all the money in the world can't make you happy but they've never seemed to understand that as rich royalty, they have an abundance of options to make things better if they're going through a hard time. They don't have a 9-5 job that they're legally expected to show up to everyday and can take time out if they don't feel up to things, they've got nannies who can look after their child, they have servants to do their chores, they can afford the best therapists and medical treatment. Unlike most of us, they don't just have to put up with their problems and muddle on through with stuff that's causing them additional stress. So them moaning about being trolled just don't fly. If Meghan didn't want criticism, she shouldn't have married a prince and become a public figure (and still be pursuing fame now she's left royalty behind), end of. If you want to be a celebrity, you have to take the bad with the good.

Most people criticised her for very valid things, especially considering the amount of lies and contradictions she made, the way she ghosted everyone who'd helped her get to where she was, how she treated her father who loved her and the amount of taxpayer's money she was spending on outfits (she was the biggest spender out of all European royalty, more than princesses and queens, despite only being a duchess married to the 6th in line). And now she's under fire for clearly plotting to get out of the family for months, maybe even from the very beginning, yet wanted the taxpayer-funded wedding and a child born into royalty first and got her mansion in America through Prince Charles's money (which comes from taxpayers). It's beyond me how she has any fans at all. The moment that turned a lot of people off was when she did that African tour and in among helping impoverished people, felt the need to say to the reporter that she was glad someone had asked her if she was ok because not many people had asked her that. It's completely tone deaf to do charity outreach and then make it all about you. For most of us, our own problems would wash away in these surroundings, but not Meghan Markle. And she didn't even say "no one" had asked her, just "not many" had. So, some people had asked. Personally, one person asking if I'm ok is enough for me but some people need to be noticed all the time by everyone, don't they?

She had very rare instances of racism that were swiftly dealt with. But other than that, there was nothing slanderous. Everything that was pulled up about her from her past and present was true. And plenty of other Commonwealth countries are against her too for the same reasons we are - spending too much taxpayer's money, cashing in on their titles, lecturing to us about climate change while being the least eco conscious and so on. But yeah, if you're not from a Commonwealth country, or the USA, you probably won't really know or care about them. For what it's worth, a lot of Americans are dismissive of them because they're royal. Americans have never had a royal family, so they idea of the taxpayers paying for someone else's lifestyle is considered ludicrous to them. It's part of American culture to work hard if you want an extravagant life. People who get it through virtue of being born or marrying into it tend not to gain much respect from them.
