Yes, lets throw all of our trash onto the only planet that we may have to migrate our entire species to because we didn't know how to treat this one :neyde:

its actually super simple. you need to build something to transport all that trash to mars. so you would put more and more of our resources onto a different planet. because those things wouldnt come back

You will learn respect!

but there’s nothing on mars so it won’t negatively impact anyone:laughga:

i mean this whole idea is illogical, i just don’t think this argument is the one to go with

Basically this :laughga: i feel stupid for actually writing a whole paragraph to counterargue that since it's a crazy idea altogether but the absurdity of "planet rights!" irked me

chaeri pls

If Earth had the money to waste on rocket launches and fuel to send trash to Mars, it'd make more sense to send it directly into the Sun :poot:

If the alternative is people dying because of pollution

It's not, though.

That's the other thing -- there's almost nothing we could do, probably not even a nuclear war, that would render Earth less habitable than Mars is now. And we could (and maybe should) terraform Mars, but whatever that would cost would always be more than what it would cost to repair Earth. Not even counting the cost of transport.

When people think of settling Mars, at least if they're being rational about it, they're looking at it in two ways: 1. expanding the total human domain; 2. ensuring that we don't have "all our eggs in one basket". The latter implies something like the survival of the species in the face of, say, a massive asteroid strike on Earth (much bigger than the one that killed the dinosaurs -- because we could survive that).* What they are NOT thinking of, is a replacement home. Mars is not a replacement for Earth, and probably never can be.

* BTW, here's what I'm talking about (warning, this is possibly the most terrifying thing I've ever seen):

The side effects of constant space journeys to dump trash are huge though...
