Florida to lift all COVID-19 restrictions on restaurants, bars

this will be interesting to see it play out over the next couple weeks... if cases stay moderately around the same current rate despite an almost assured increase in virus-tourism, this will be touted as a HUGE win for Trump (he will take credit), and will pull in swing voters who don't love Trumps insensitivities, but are also seeing their lives and careers fall apart financially.  If this works well for Florida, or even just isn't a huge disaster (a small increase in cases will still be highlighted as a success by the right), expect more states like TN, GA, SC, NC, TX, etc to follow suit.   This would play particularly well into Trump's narrative as it would "prove" the "evil democrats" are just staying shut down as a political warfare tactic.  

If the cases in Florida skyrocket it will spell almost guaranteed huge losses in independent/moderate support for the president, especially those who are not small business owners and were cushioned enough by the heightened unemployment benefits (or were able to work from home) to not feel pressured to risk health for financial stability.  It will prove the notion the President cares more about his re-election and vanity, than the long term safety and health of the country. 

The question becomes why a close ally to the President would make such a huge gamble, unless*** he knows he can control the outcome and data.  Expect this to be an all out media war.  The governor will likely try to limit testing capabilities and funding, while also relying on conservative media sources to tout localized successes in more sparse rural counties.  On the other hand, the DNC and media allies, will stand ready to hyper-focus on any and all surges - I can foresee them highlighting numbers of positive cases in dense places like Miami (for example showing one busy hospital in Miami and projecting it to be the standard for the whole state), while not necessarily explaining the gradually lowering mortality rate and decreasing severity of symptoms.   

This will have a huge impact on the election regardless

There for sure would be a spike considering flu season is basically here as well - every republican state saw an increase in COVID cases that began opening too early. Especially in Florida and Texas.

Just let them do what they want at this point and they can deal with the consequences of their stupidity. No one has the energy anymore to continue worrying about them or any other states that won’t follow guidelines. They know very well what they should do they just refuse. If tons more people die we at least know who to blame.

The thing is they sorta tried this once before. When COVID started and almost the country shut down but Florida didnt, republican leaders were praising Fl's (lack of) response. Desantis went and attacked the media on air when being questioned about his lackluster COVID response... just a couple weeks later much of Florida shut down due to a big outbreak.
