I think I would narrow it down to establishing her persona and sound during The Fame era, The Papparazzi VMA performance, Bad Romance music video, and ASIB. Without C2C era, which shows her gifts and talents without all the noise, a lot of portion of today's image of Gaga may not be happening. And she could likely end up like Kampy Petty does. Contrary to popular belief, C2C was actually in the works before ARTPOP was released (not recorded; I think she worked on both simultaneously) and would have come out regardless of its success. They had planned the album after Lady is a Tramp gained traction in 2011.
