The Fame Monster is entry level Gaga. If you want to recommend an album to someone who never heard her music before, The Fame Monster is the best choice. That’s what makes it her most essential album for people.

For me its:

1. The Fame monster (triconic!)

2. Born this way (iconic!)

3. Chromatica (for me theres no skip! Her vocals are excellent!)

4. ARTPOP (absolutely banger after banger! Sometimes messy but in a good way)

5. ASIB (her vocal peak! Only #5 because it's not a solo album)

6. Joanne (love the vibe of it but sometimes I cant feel al the songs. It's better than the stans say!)

7. The Fame (plastic pop. Only the singles are good and listenable after the years)

8. Red and blue (listened to it once. Cute but that's it)

9. Cheek to cheek (not because it's her worst. It's just an album full of covers)

I think that it’s important, definitely, but ASIB is more important. It saved her career and got the GP on her side and showed the world her raw talent. It also got her across the 10 Grammys mark, another #1 song and album (something TFM didn’t do), and got her an Oscar. 

While TFM may be more impactful to pop culture, ASIB made her a legend in the entertainment field as a whole, not just stuck in music.

A Star Is Born is important but I don’t think the whole soundtrack is, it’s more just Shallow that’s really important and her role in the movie. But as an album, The Fame Monster is her most important work. It literally changed the sound and look of pop music. She influenced her peers and a generation of singers. It changed how pop sounded on the radio and how a pop star should look.

Chromatica is LG-6. so i don't think yall should consider ASIB, CTC and Red and Blue as actual Gaga albums... they're more side projects to her own music, and Red and Blue was just a little demo she put together when she started performing.

That being said, this is my ranking rn (i tried so hard not to :

#1: TFM: This is her best work. It's critically acclaimed, has amazing visuals, propelled her into super-stardom and set her above the rest of her peers. I wouldn't change a thing on that album/era/tour.

My ranking of the other albums changes around a bit because they are all so diverse and hard to compare to one another, but I'll try:

#2: BTW is probably next best due to its societal impact and Gaga's sonic range. Although the album is sometimes messy and I don't revisit it that often, this album is "capital i" Important, a true pop culture phenomenon. We owe our rights to this album.

#3: Chromatica: Gaga albums up to this point have either been game-changing pop records OR albums that showcase a totally new and unexpected side of Gaga. This album does neither, which upsets me a bit. HOWEVER, I really appreciate its coherency after some of her messier albums and I'm into her return to dance pop. Alice, Replay, 911, Babylon, Rain on Me, and Enigma are all very strong pop songs. There's no Bad Romance here, but that's okay. I also like how her lyrics are finally a bit more personal. Lastly, the 911 vid is giving this album a major boost for me because I love artsy Gaga.

#4: ASIB: It's not the best album from start to finish due to Bradley's parts, but it certainly contains some of her career highlights (ARUTW, Shallow, LWIF, INLA). This era was iconic and the accolades are well deserved.

#5: Joanne: Unlike ASIB, this album doesn't contain many career highlights but it is a great album to listen to from start to finish. It's coherent, mature, easy to listen to and sing along with while driving, cooking, hanging out, etc. I often wish that Gaga hadn't taken herself so seriously during this era. I think if she had said "this is still a campy/fun Gaga album, just through the lens of Americana/country" rather than "this is a serious/personal country album about family," then expectations would have been set more appropriately and it would have been better received for what it is. For example, Lorde's Melodrama is so well received and Lorde is very open about it simply being about partying in her early 20s -- critics are aware of this fact and as such the album acclaimed for what it is, not for what it is trying to be.

#6: The Fame: It hasn't aged well for me unfortunately, but it does have high nostalgia value and a few great songs. 

#7: ARTPOP: There are many fun moments. There are many mistakes. Like Joanne, expectations sadly hurt this album as well. 

#8: C2C: Last on my list, but I do listen to it more than ARTPOP or The Fame. I wouldn't place it higher on my list since it's just covers, but I do think it is a good listen when you want more chill or sophisticated music. I will always appreciate this album for showcasing to the world that Gaga is a great jazz singer, especially when considering its juxtaposition to ARTPOP.
