Basically people are acting like China is the only one who has that kind of access to an app's user info and whatnot, as if private companies in the US (and everywhere else) don't do the same. The dictatorship refers to China Gov, which has already be proven many times to work with these apps (mostly actually it is the first financer), not to the app itself. They need algorithms able to track people, track what they do and where they are. Of course this could be use for good purposes (i.e. arresting criminals), but one has to be very naif to believe there is nothing more. If Google knows I'm gay, I don't care, if the country that punishes homosexuality with prison knows it, well... Of course this is a stupid example, it's way more complicated than this.
