Well I have Tbh I had the same thoughts tho. For a while I flirted with the idea of minarchism where there is a state but it's only function is to provide people with police and courts to protect people from things such as theft, violence and murder. But ultimately I have faith that people would be able to live without a government. I don't believe that the only reason why (most) people don't rape, murder, steal, drive too fast etc. is because there's laws against it, but moreso because people are smart enough to realize they shouldn't do that. Many people believe that without police and laws we would end up living in a mad max world where people run amok, raping and murdering each other. But I have a very hard time believing that. If people simply wanted to rape, murder and steal they would do it whether there was a law against it or not. If the state was abolished tomorrow I think people would continue to live their lives mostly the same as they do now. There just wouldn't be any laws. I remember not too long ago there was a thread on here about Belgium not having a government, and different users from Belgium were commenting that they didn't even notice a difference; one user even commented that they hadn't even noticed that they didn't have a government. And as far as I understand, people hadn't suddenly gone crazy and begun to terrorize each other due to their lack of goverment.
JusKeepBreathin 19,311
I have mixed feelings, but would like to see what happens before I give an opinion. I do think the voting in local elections takes more discipline. You have to really get involved and study to know who you are voting for. Especially in a big city. They tend to often think very one way still that they are taught either by parents or school and often don't look at all the big pictures or all the variables at play The same can be said about many adults but with 16 year olds u see it even more. Not convinced this is a good idea Exactly this. When I was 16 I supported John McCain in the 2008 election and identified as a Republican (due to brainwashing from my father). Today at 28, I'm a clear progressive and supported Bernie Sanders in the past 2 elections.

ShtoopidLahv 710
Lol at people saying this is dumb when boomers routinely believe dumb bullshit they saw on Facebook like Hillary Clinton inventing AIDS... Older voters got us Trump. They’re not more informed than younger voters. If anything young people barely turn out to vote and the ones that do care enough to do so are MUCH more informed than the general electorate

Better Day 5,766
I’m in favour of 16/17 years old voting. I was 17 at the 2014 Scottish independence referendum and the referendum got myself interested in politics. I have voted ever since. I do my research when it comes up to the elections. Clarence 1,444
can i just say that alot of yall are really stupid. yall really think 16 year olds have the mind of a 4 year old or something. there is no age where someone starts thinking smart. my 60 year old dad is still dumb oop. the managers ive worked for are less informed about politics than i am and so are alot of ppl who vote all the time. i guarentee u that there plenty 16 year olds who are more informed about politics than the ppl who disagree on this thread. But I can still have opinions about what is reasonable. The same way I can believe some laws are more reasonable than others without supporting them.
