It’s a talent but it’s not her at her best. She can do those vocal grows and show off (which she did in ASIB) but in Joanne it kinda falls flat because of how focused she was on certain songs to be that mold (where she sounds like she just smoked one too many cigarettes) But if people prefer that over the clean vocals she has on her other albums then that’s their opinion. alsemanche 93,992
She sounds MUCH on C2C, ASIB and Chromatica Soft, soothing, and succulent
pachinko 10,469
A Star is Born is the only right answer.
Ashley 9,599
I agree. Joanne, Chromatica, and ASIB have her best vocals.
Nemanja 595
A star is Born and Chromatica are vocally her best albums
Aga Gydal 3,158
I like the vocal production (or lack thereof) on Joanne, it feels very unplugged. That said, I disagree with it showcasing her best vocals. I can tell she smoked a lot while recording it and her range sounds strained in many places. I think those blue notes add to the emotional punch of the material, but best vocals to me are on Chromatica. In fact, I know that Gaga has several very distinct vocal styles and typically they've been separated by album, but this feels like the first time we get to hear them all in one album, even in the same songs. The very nasal, pop-forward delivery from The Fame is on Rain On Me and Plastic Doll, and Replay's verses. She played around with robotic/vogue inspired spoken-word in Born This Way and ARTPOP, and that's on display with Babylon, Sour Candy, and the second verse of Alice. She's always done accented theatrical vocals, and we get that on Enigma and Sine From Above. Her powerful raspy vocals from Joanne are on the 1000 Doves piano version and Enigma as well. She experimented with her head voice a lot on ASIB, and that's also on Alice, 1000 Doves and 911. I think as an artist showcase, Chromatica is her best, but I understand your take as Joanne was very vocals focused.
xoxo Craig 55,649
No, far from it. The the tour is vocally her best though. But as an album, Chromatica (and ASIB) is vocally MUCH better. You can hear the damage from smoking on her voice in Joanne, and its something that I don't like. There are some good vocal moments, but I prefer the live versions (from the JWT) of the songs on Joanne to the studio versions. farfromtheshallow 57
Joanne is underrated. But vocally A Star Is Born takes the crown.
G U C C I 5,511
The JWT is without question where she had her best vocals to date. On an album though I would have to say ASIB outshines them all but her first few albums were not necessarily meant to show off her vocals.
Wet Fire 7,766
ASIB and Chromatica are vocally superior Joanne is a fantastic album nonetheless
Cookie Tookie 10,546
Have you heard C2C? That features her peak vocals and best technique. Joanne sounds strained. Not sure if she was going for that sound, or what.
Ronlop 6,882
C2C and ASIB are kind of her best vocally imo
ShayCristoforo 10,607
Yes, and ASIB is up there too. Perfect Illusion and Is That Alright are incredibly tough songs to sing well. Even Million Reasons is difficult to breathe properly. Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time.
numb the flame 7,321
CTC, ASIB and Chromatica have Gaga's best vocals imo.
