FentyGa 14,340
recording of a live performance to go #1 since mariah carey and trey lorenz’s ‘i’ll be there’ in 1992? mariah’s cover was recorded at her MTV Unplugged performance, subsequently going #1 for two weeks my question is-does shallow technically qualify for this same category, since it was recorded at some theatre in cali with a live audience, rather than in studio, or does it not count? Head Empty 25,074
I don't think it counts as a "live performance" though In my eyes a live performance is one take where all of the music is produced. Shallow has live vocal recordings, but it was sung multiple times and the best vocal takes were used for different sections of the song. The instrumental was largely recorded beforehand I think? And of course some minor vocal production was done afterwards. Happiness will never last, darkness comes to kick your ass... ᵃˢˢ 🕺

Don't forget - at the beginning of the radio edit, there's no audience screams. And the vocals on the movie version of Shallow (specifically, Gaga's) are noticeably different from the single/album version. dOnT sAd ReAcT mE 2 bE sHaDy i WiLL RePoRt U!!1!
