I'm really happy with this mindset of not feeling the need to be #1 or commercially successful but my question is, why hasn't it reflected on her music?

Why is her music still commercial and could seem like they were from Prism or Witness or Teenage Dream? I really want to see a new Katy Perry, not just in her mentality but also in her artistic direction. Tons of artists like Gaga, Taylor Swift have drastically re-invented their sounds for multiple times but Katy hasn't.

Well, depression and suicidal thoughts can teach you a thing or to about what's important. So can having a child. Maybe she would've had this outlook if Witness didn't flop, but maybe not. Sometimes you have to reach the lowest point in your life to see what's important. Maybe that's why a lot of artists change their tune after they flop. Because there is much more to being an artist than hits

Maybe that's the kind of music she likes and wants to make? Maybe she's happy with her sound? I think that's perfectly okay.

Well yes if she truly likes it. It just doesn't exude evidence of much artistic growth, but I had just assumed that artists always wanted to grow artistically and in their ambitions.

I feel she has, just maybe it's not about changing her sound and style. Her lyrics, for instance, I feel have grown a lot. And even her sound has definitely matured, just not in a drastically different way. Witness sounds completely different to most things Katy has put out.
