ImTired 3,955
Guys. Gaga is smart. She is a fierce ally. I guess what's confusing TO ME is that, at World Pride, with the word mincing and tap dancing, she could have easily said "Bisexual", but instead CHOSE to say "I like girls sometimes". So she CLEARLY doesnt use the word because she doesn't want to, right? TO ME she CLEARLY doesn't identify as bi anymore, even though she admits to being attracted to women occasionally. Go watch it again. She's smart, chooses her words very carefully, and she literally (at WORLD PRIDE, in front of the friendliest LGBT, Stonewall 50th crowd ever assembled on this planet, ever) doesnt claim bisexuality. TO ME, she's already told us many times over, despite 10 y/o interviews, that she doesnt feel the label applies to her now. And today, TO ME, people are disrespectful by forcing it on her. Period. And it makes me uncomfortable, so I'm going to talk about it. Did I say TO ME? Cause this is just to me. Lol

It's about her being forgotten and/or erased by the media over and over again (something very common for bisexuals) so let us be mad. Just because it doesn't affect you, doesn't mean it doesn't matter. This article is from Billboard. They included several bi artists in their list. If they wanted to erase bi people, they wouldn't have listed any of them But obviously bi erasuse IS a problem in our society. That's for sure. But I just don't think it's the case in this article at all

You have to take the social constructive ideas of dating and marriage out of it because there are bisexual people who enjoy dating both genders and bisexual people who have heteronormative dating patterns (or dating the opposite sex). This doesn't make their bisexuality less valid. live and let live

When asked about her relationship to the LGBT community in an interview earlier this year she reaffirmed herself as a BISEXUAL woman. That's how she labels herself. That's how she's always labeled herself. I took a pic with Google translate...I don't get what the editors note means here. Is that something she said off the record or their interpretation/translation? As a queer woman in a long-term relationship with a man, the few people I've chosen to discuss my identity with have had the immediate reaction of "why are you with a man then?" or "can you even be sure if you're queer if you are only with a man?" These kinds of responses have made me very wary of discussing my identity with anyone at all knowing it will inevitably be picked apart and questioned more than it will be met with support and love. I obviously don't know how Gaga's mind works or how she feels, but for me, even though I'm proud of my identity, I certainly don't go around talking about it all the time because it's exhausting and frustrating to deal with the response. Exactly, Im a gay man and I've never had a relationship with a man but i have been with/find men attractive. Just because you aren't in love with the same sex doesn't mean your not gay. I know lots of queer people who have only been in love with the opposite sex, just because they've never had a relationship with a women/man doesn't mean i would question there sexuality. lifeasgeorge 9,427
Bi-erasure is very real and we don't have the right to question the legitimacy of one's sexual orientation. If someone says they're bi then they are bi. Gaga doesn't need to have sex with a woman in front of us or date a woman to prove it. She also doesn't need to renew her bisexual card every year by putting out an announcement that she is still sexually attracted to women, saying it once is enough for anyone. live and let live

And it makes me uncomfortable, so I'm going to talk about it. Did I say TO ME? Cause this is just to me. Lol It depends. Sometimes she uses the word “bisexual” too To me, liking girls sometimes and being bisexual is kinda the same thing. She just uses different words every time. Depending on the context probably: she usually doesn't like or care about labels, but sometimes it's necessary to show that you can be proud of yourself and be a star just like she is. Just like how she felt the need to reference her gender in Free Woman. She hesitated but she did it because she thought there was a good reason to label herself. After all, Billboard mentioned several bi artists. So I think we shouldn't accuse them of bi-erasure, I think they just forgot about it. Some people meant to say that they forgot about it because it doesn't make too much noise when she speaks on it, but they said it with confusing words, which others misunderstood and that's why it started to be a debate. There's always two or three people who will say she's straight without knowing her, but let's just remind them that they don't know her and that only SHE can define herself.
