I still think it's not morally right to be with someone u don't love the way they love you (he prolly loved her as a friend) but if he felt it could cost his life, and it could in the 50s I can understand a bit more. But sorry but gay men who r closeted in the 90s, 2000s, 2010s, to now and marry a woman I don't think it's the right thing to do to marry a woman and break her heart in million pieces when 20 years later u feel comfortable to come out. Women are not 'safe' options for gay men to hide. Same goes with lesbians who marry men and never let them know although Ive never seen that happening as much as gay men.
