rasclautmangos 2,746
I love A-Yo and I'm surethey thought it would be a bigger hit. It probably would have been if it were more r&b leaning instead of country.

Now that you point it out it does sound kind of similar...
ArtGagaPop 61,940
It was actually the 2nd single for like a day or two but MR blew up after it's carpool performance so they went with that instead.
C1trus 4,341
During the Joanne era, you can tell that she's really into A-Yo.She wanted it to be a single but not like a "copy" of uptown funk. Isn't there a a deleted "Making of Joanne -Ayo" video on youtube where she's kinda pissed that they're trying to imitate uptown funk with thay song? Looking back at her previous solo albums, track #2 always has single potential (not including Chromaludes) Venus could have been Gaga's most artsy single of all time ι'м ρυℓℓιηg үσυя sтяιηgs
TimisaMonster 31,073
Yeah she really tried to make it a big hit song and was promoting it like crazy but I didn't see any "hit" potential from the song...definitely no anywhere near as catchy as uptown funk lol The whole Joanne album was try hard if you ask me and didn't feel genuine...idk why she felt she NEEDED to do country pop just to say she did it... RAMROD 109,437
It must be a joke cos it doesn't have funk in it I would say song that he did with Miley is way more closer to attempting to be another Uptown Funk. It's his own song, is one of the reason. You can hear similiar formula amidst all those banjo samples. Anderson123 38,298
Lol you guys are taking her words very literal. I feel like that relationship with Mark Ronson has allowed to joke with him that way. He was trying to describe the vocals she had to use like he was saying that it had to have this Michelle Pfieffer etc etc and she was like “yeah yeah yeah it needs to be like fcking Uptown Funk!” Because he had just won a Grammy for that and it was a smash. She was saying like “yeah yeah yeah stfu!” but just messing around with it.
TheSlash 14,539
I think she was just mocking Mark that he wanted it to be the next Uptown Funk. And I wouldn't be mad, tbh. A-YO is a banger and anyone saying otherwise seems to have COVID-19 bc lack of taste Ew, David!
Judas Society 3,584
I mean, even if she meant it, Shallow made it up to it by leaps and bounds
RochestrMonstr 3,200
I don’t see why it didn’t just come first if they wanted it to be a hit. It’s not like it would have done worse than PI. I don’t think it would have done well as the second single. Million Reasons was able to be performed several different times in very different performances. A-Yo seems like it would have gotten old if it got the Million Performances treatment. And it wouldn’t have been appropriate for some of the more intimate occasions where MR was played, including the Super Bowl, where it was the heart of the performance. And I think A-Yo relies more on Joanne’s aesthetic, whereas MR is able to be played with songs from other albums/eras and not feel “country”.
Massive Monster 5,003
Remember when the Chainsmokers thought PI was bad so Gaga responded by sending them a link to A-Yo It worked though Kind regards

Reject False Icons 4,770
It really makes me think that there were more reasons to collaborate with Mark and Bloodpop considering they came after their respective smash hits (uptown funk, sorry) I don’t mean it was the principal reason, maybe a little plus

Sneaky Oliver 22,111
I like AYO and gosh it’s been a while since I listened to it but I think she and Mark should have worked in a funky song like Uptown Funk. It could make the album more pop-ish and more likable for the general fans
