Is it just me or did Taylor flop (compared to her own work tho) with catering to gheys with Lover and went immediately back to gp and straights :poot:

It didn't 'flop' (since, iirc, it was the biggest worldwide record last year in the West) - but it was a major artistic regression. I mean, the fact 'ME!' and 'You Need To Calm Down' come from the same woman behind folklore is shocking. Lover had some great tracks (Cornelia Street, Death By A Thousand Cuts, Miss Americana, Daylight) but it was dragged down by over simplification that you'd expect from a 16-year-old... not an almost 30-year-old.

folklore, on the other hand, is extremely mature. I'm almost surprised she released an album like this so, relatively, soon into her career. I thought we'd be hearing these songs from Taylor in her forties or something - not now, and right on the back of her most generic album yet. It's a real curveball in comparison to pretty much everything (minus a few Red tracks and Safe & Sound) she's put out in 10 years.

:enigma:

the biggest reason why it debuted so high is because no one knew it was folk

The album is called folklore, people knew what to expect :huntyga:

With no lead single and no announcement except some black and white photos that show it could very well have been

This is amazing and so well deserved, it’s a beautiful album and the surprise drop was genius.

I’m honestly in awe over Taylor: her star power and her industry pull (along with her massive songwriting talent) is just incredible. She’s one of very few artists where I anticipate their next move; truly a force to be reckoned with and I’m glad we have a star like her in this day and age. Along with Gaga and a couple of others, she really knows how to keep her audience on their toes.

It's an amazing album, her best after a long time if not her best period. I'm in love with it. Exile made me cry so much. I don't even know why Reputation and Lover still exists after that :billie:

So yes, well deserved. And t u,n is one of the worst Ariana albums and is nowhere near Folklore imo.

In love with chaos depressed by fate.

NO 1M+ DEBUT? OVER!!

It’s this argument that sends me :bear:

And then they’ll say that Taylor flopped for her own standards, but I’m here like, bitch when your fave sells 830k in their first week I’ll remember to let you know how bad they flopped :laughga:

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.
