This will be Taylor’s least commercially successful album yet

Her recent singles aren't as big as they were, and it feels like this album has the least commercially-viable singles. But her albums usually sell like hotcakes, at least for the first few weeks.

That wasn’t the point with this album tbh. It wasn’t made to sell. It was made as an outlet for her to share a new side of her, and it is EXTREMELY critically acclaimed. If anything, it was to get her another AOTY award, and it’s probably gonna work.

I’m sure it will be, but I don’t think she cares. After breaking the 1M streak with Lover I think it’s given her a new freedom to release music without as much pressure

Yep, but that's what happens when you surprise drop something instead of building months of hype and anticipation It will still do well because it is her but not as well as her past works. I think that is probably what she expects as well, this album seems to be more for the art of it rather than a commercial smash

She surprise released it and it's a stripped back album likely put together during the past few months of isolation. Doesn't seem like she intended for it to be a blockbuster.

I mean, this is her strongest album in a long time, the GP and critics are eating it up, and it's on track to potentially win Album of the Year at the Grammys. While it may not have initial blockbuster sales, it could have some significant longevity. 

Leave it to GGD to underestimate it because there aren't any gay club bops on it.  

Though I'm still twerking my fat ass to The Last Great American Dynasty.

I bought the vinyl after I listend to the first song, even tho shipping starts in 16 weeks ! I always liked her music, fell in love with Red and 1989 but folklore is just the Taylor I used to love so much. She might not get the super big numbers with this album, but I think she gets older and more mature fans back

I think covid made many artists change their minds about crazy promo, sales and charts.

They can't tour anyway, they can't sing live on tv, nothing, so it's better just to release the music and let the fans enjoy it.

She doesn't need commercial success though. She's already rich and famous, and now she can focus on creating the music she wants to create. I often prefer musicians/songs/albums that are less popular with the GP anyhow.

But yeah I could see it underperforming in longevity (for Taylor Swift standards). Anyway it's a great album, I'm sure she'll slay Grammy Awards next year
