G*ga doesn't have the lyrical range. No matter how many times she sings Bad Romance on the piano she will never have that storytelling ability. It's fine, it's just different, that's why no one wants Gaga to go stripped back, as opposed to Taylor fans, because they know that's where Taylor shines

Ok but Taylor almost exclusively writes love songs. I love both Gaga and TS, but acting like she has more "range" is absurd and they're both great lyricists in completely different ways. Gaga couldn't write All Too Well and Taylor couldn't write Bloody Mary, let them be.

Gaga literally showed her lyrical range in you and i . You and i can compare to anything Taylor has ever written .

I'd be very excited for her if she did. Joanne is so bad when compared to folklore. ASIB was the closest thing we got to a folklore and ASIB was a great album.

How can you write something like that? Gaga Is and Can be a good lyricist and she has this lyrical range, she has proved it in many of her songs. Listen to her unreleased songs, or Demo versions or even the latest albums... THE problem is that she writes PoP music, songs and at the end result is what it is...

Her and Katy are mean girls and just because they've both finally found someone to put up with them romantically doesn't mean they are suddenly nice people with actual vocal talent. I don't care how many pregnant music videos or hipster songs about cardigans they make. They're both assholes.

Gaga doesn't need this parody of Joanne. And saying she has no lyrical range... what? Did you listen to Chromatica? :bear:

While Joanne is on my top 3 of Gagas album it's not anything like Folklore. It is sliding into indie but it's still pop/rock and it still has a pop quality lyrics to it, just like every album she's done. Taylors strength has ALWAYS been her lyrcis, and even when she made pop, she did it with amazing lyrics (Getaway car, death by a thousand cuts, style). She is with Lana and Lorde the best female of making stories in songs while gaga has other qualities. Gagas lyrics keep you guessing while Taylor takes you to the exact place where she describes them.

Is it even good?

No, it sounds like a less hot version of a lana del rey lookalike

I mean, if you pay attention to the lyrics its evident how cliché and monotone it sounds.

Lyrically it sounds like an early careear Halsey, trying to impersonate an indie persona

story-telling, leonard cohen mood, space based stories, etc

and the weirdest thing is that taylor's lyrical pop structure is still there somehow, you can see and deduct the poorly developed choruses that seem to build up for a pop chorus but then returns to the monotony that she calls "folk" :billie:

To me it sounds like a a contractual clause, where the record label forces her to make a niche album ...
and the fact that this album has 8 editions and the marketing is comparable to k-pop groups (countless limited items, etc.) makes me believe it more...

She does actually but the pop industry forced it out of her.  Captivated is a great storytelling song and ASIB brought back some of it.

Storytelling songs are the most basic songs though :ohwell: anyone could do that

Lol.  Not.  Storytelling songs that feel natural are some of the hardest to write.  Billy Joel is a master for example.
