Businesses in Canada are facing increasing tention with workers who do not want to return to work

 

According to polls 27% of workers who were recalled to work do not want to return and the $2000/month CERB benefit is given as the top reason

 

The benefits have been extended from their original 4 month limit and many people have been on it for several months earning over $10,000 total from the benefits for some individuals

I mean yeah working part time and going to school it was tempting to not return...

but... I mean I do make more than that since I returned (except going forward no since I’ll be mainly in school haha) 

these people are going to be in for a shock when next tax season arrives 

I was grateful to have a job that needed me back immediately so I’d also be foolish to turn that down

That is just NOT smart at all. CERB can only get you for so long and as for now it will end October 3.  However Trudeau just announced today that his government ( Finance Minister, Bill Morneau)  will talk more about CERB tmrw

I think CERB was great given the circumstances but of course there's always some lazy individuals who take advantage to milk the sh*t out if it

 

You should of seen my last personal trainer. When I was looking for work and my EI about to run out he's like "just go on CERB when it runs out like me"

 

And he didn't sound the slightest bit bothered to even consider looking for anything. 

 

He's still unemployed. I'm trying to get him a job where I work now and he still hasn't done his resume I'm like dude

 

Another guy who lasted only 1 day in my new job then quit had been on disability for 2 years after a major surgery. He actually admited that he dragged it on and exagerated the pain to have his benefits extended

 

For people who think governemnt benefits abuse isn't a thing when given too freely, legit think again. People do it all the time

Well don’t they have to go to work or be laid off? That’s what my option was and even though I’m back to work they’ve been giving my one 4 hour shift a week so I still am eligible of CERB anyways cause if the reduced hours/less than $1000 a month rule. 
 

Anyways, since you always seem to be on top of all the economic stuff, do you have any insight to how much taxes we’ll have to pay back next year @Economy

I might be wrong on this but from what I heard $2000 from CERB you actually get only $1400?

No I’ve been getting the full 2000 and so is everybody else I know

CERB is basically income replacement and it will be taxed as regular income

 

So how much u have to pay back of the CERB when income tax comes depends what bracket you are in for your annual income as a whole

 

So CERB taxes will vary for each person

 

Edit: Yes they can be terminated if they refuse. So I assume ppl that aren't desperate for income (maybe young adults that live with parents for example) or people that were thinking of changing jobs anyway are probably the ones doing this

 

Ppl that don't wanna loose their employment I doubt would push their luck with this

That must be missing context. Maybe that's what someone of an average income will keep after income taxes are payed or something

 

As of right now the $2000 a month are being given raw without any deductions from my understanding

 

You will pay the taxes in early 2021 during tax filing season

I know we all got $2000 a month ...

Ummm I dunno. Did u pay any taxes?

 

U can't get a tax refund from CERB if u never deducted any of it to begin with

 

Unless ur other deductions are enough to offset what u owe then yes on a net basis u could still get money back

 

It would be hard for anyone that was on it for a long time to still get a tax refund. But if u were on it for a short time and rest of year made good deductions u still could get a refund
