From a fan stand point this must have been an extremely difficult era, but I feel like from a financial aspect Interscope is chilling,

because Gaga scored a #1, a Top #5 hit, both on their way to platinum/multi platinum status, they’ve got a Gold album track out of it and the album is on its way to scanning Platinum. All without having to lift a finger. From a business standpoint, it’s smart.

why invest in an era when you’re already seeing a solid return without having to do much.

True, except for the Rain On Me part though. The song did well but trust me, a good portion of the royalties went to Ari's label. You know Scooter Braun, there's no way Gaga/Interscope took 80% out of it. It must be like 60% at most. If you exclude the budget of the Super Bowl, I'm convinced that Gaga made a lot more money with Million Reasons, especially with the 2-dollar-budget video

I know, but the money is still divided, they're still concurrent in a way. UMG is fine for sure. Interscope is probably less. It still is though

That’s not how it works, even if Ari & Scooter want a larger cut, its Gaga’s album, her and Interscope/UMG are the ones who decide who gets what cut.

If I'm right, it's contractually a Gaga AND Ariana song, not a Gaga song that features Ariana, even though it's on Chromatica.

In the end UMG obviously decides for Interscope and Republic, but both labels/teams have a say that UMG may or may not listen. We don't know for sure what happens “backstage” but UMG wants money, and since Scooter is THE biggest manager in the world, I personally believe his voice is heard when it comes to singles. If it was a collaborative album, I think things would have been different. But obviously none of us know for sure. It's all speculation. I'm not stating a fact, just my opinion.

But, we know from the leaked legal docs that Gaga has Interscope on their knees, and we know that she's extremely generous when it comes to credits and royalties (she credited RedOne as the leading writer of Bad Romance for writing the “oh-oh-oh-oh-oh” part), I wouldn't be surprised if she fought to give half of the royalties to Ari and her team, and if Interscope asks for a 50-50 share, UMG has no reason to refuse, I believe.

Once again, it's just my point of view, I could be wrong. But with the current circumstances, I think Rain On Me didn't bring enough money to Interscope for them to just “chill” as you said. They even pulled it out of radio (or some radio formats, idk). However, I agree that Chromatica probably did so much more than expected that they don't feel the need to do much to promote it. Kinda like ASIB OST and how they didn't move a finger to promote the music (even though the movie was a big promo in itself)

Smile did okay actually, without NRO. It didn't do GREAT, but it's not that big of a tragedy. Daisies actually has 100M+ streams which I didn't expect

The reason i checked Heaven n hell and Smile is because both include songs over 1 or 2 years of its release! Imagine if Gaga released Chromatica when Rom had already 700m streams and SL 300m for example! Yeah, Smile did great without any hit!

I will fly on a challenger across the sky like a phoenix..

In reality Chromatica is #4 I believe. Manic, Brightest Blue, and Heaven and Hell didn’t get as many streams this year as Chromatica. Smile should be at around 300M, H&H around 1.1B, and idk about Manic or BB, can someone enlighten me?
