I actually caught an eel once near this Japanese guy. He wanted it so bad he took it off my line. And funnily, while he was doing it, he had a fish on his line that took his entire pole into the water.

It tastes nice actually, and have flaky texture like fish, but then melts when you put it in your mouth , it got nice, clean, and pleasant flavor to it when you know how to prepare it, no earthy flavor at all. Especially when mixed with unagi sauce, it is savory but sweet, homemade is better since we can choose to taste if we want it more savory, more sweet, or just right. and served with pickles and Sanshō peppers *chefs kiss*

Also, it is less messy/finnicky, since eel only have one bone running down the middle. 👍

The Japanese probably misses their unagidon, it is rather precious for them, especially in the Summer. Even though it is a oily kind of "fish" like mackarel does.
