Thats definitly a big facor but countries like switzerland and finland never had colonies and are richer then former colonial empires like portugal spain or france.

Like its also intresting to me that the hot regions in Europe or Australia are "poorer" then the cold regions

Switzerland and Finland are part of the richer countries because they haven't been colonialised. It's not about if they built an empire, it's about if they were a colony.

the hot regions of Europe being the poorest i can explain (a mix of historical/political reasons + they use the hot regions for selfless tourism, etc), but not the Australia situation.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Quatar, Bahrain... there are a lot of hot countries that are rich.

There's exceptions. Russia is cold and not exactly rich

it is interesting how i.e. China as powerful as they were + amazing boat technology never decided to colonize overseas (afaik).. I wonder why

Historically China's goal was to be a regional power rather than a global power.. this however changed.

In recent times China is trying to grow its influence in Africa and Australia (besides most of Eastern Asia and the Pacific). Australia is dependend to China economically and many Chinese corporations use Africa for resources. Some actually call it a form of neo-colonialism.

If you look to Europe you can see that southern countries are less rich than the northern ones. There's even the initials  PIGS (kind of derogatory if you ask me) to denominate Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain ( I only discover this recently)cause they are the countries always struggling with deficit, economic problems, etc. Some people thinks that warm weather tend to make people less productive... Idk.

Wasn't Finland either occupied by Russia and Sweden or Norway and actually really poor until after WO2? Like Iceland is also a good exemple of a poor cold country until recent history. Also another observation If you look at south america the colder countries (argentina uruguay chile) are doing better then the tropical ones. Ofc their are exceptions like the middle east and singapore and I think that Malaysia and Rwanda erc are also catching up

I agree with the second part of the explanation tho.

Iceland is such an exception in every topic, that's why I love it so much, ugh.
